You would need to issue a Court claim against him (do it via MCOL as it is cheaper). He will probably not show up at Court and so would lose. After 28 days you can instruct the Court Baillifs to recover the money (they charge one set fee, but will keep on visiting the debtor until they have all the cash (plus their fees)).

Well done for sticking in there OP, but don't be holding your breath, or relying on any of that money coming back to you.
While TV has made every watcher believe a quick visit from a High Court Enforcement Officer will get them a lovely cheque, those guys (The Sheriffs) make their money from the £5k+ cases. Commissioning one of those companies to get your money back from a man of straw could just buy you an invoice from them for £60+VAT.
Lesser amounts are "chased" by the County Court Bailiffs, they can only work on cases up to £5k, are civil servants, have a much poorer collection rate than HCEOs and charge you £100 for commissioning them to act. (Warrant of Execution).
Think very carefully, do your own homework on the guys present status and decide if you want to potentially throw good money after bad.
