just a thought!! I have not driven the car since monday and do i need cancel the insurance as i rejected the car. and the car has no tax, the seller told me that the previous owner have kept back the tax disc for a refund and said to us, that we have till the end of the month to get one, don't know if this is true.probably not. if not shall i get it sorned as i don't want to buy tax for this.

No it isn't legal. You can be done for not displaying a valid tax disc and whilst the refund is for upsent months (so wouldn't include september) I doubt it would be looked on in a positive light. someone might have a bit more knowledge on it than I though.

Hope the car isn't on the road or you could be in trouble if it gets seen.

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • I know like the checks seem like a waste of money on cheap cars, but they are worth doing. Some of the text ones aren't as detailed as a full HPI check.

An original HP check is £19.95. I did notice on eBay that you can get a vehicle report for £8.99 that they say will highlight mileage issues. I've never used that service but someone else on here might know if it's as reliable as HPI..??

Well you actually did the right thing but after the event. I have never used the ebay one either but as you know you can check it against old MOTs.

A trader with nothing to hide should be able to give you the details so you can check the miles yourself before buying. If they get funny you have to ask what they are hiding....

As for his feedback - that's a big yes. You might want to hold it over him though - you'll be reporting the trouble you've had should he fail to resolve the issue. No sure if you can then update the feedback/offer to take it down if he pays up though. Might be worth considering.

Get the car back to him now, otherwise you are going to have an untaxed car at your doorstep (your responsibility until this is sorted out). Frankly he had put in all the out clauses he could in the advert, but by stating the (wrong) mileage, he threw that all away. He'll have to take it on the chin and refund you, but with that sort of ad, I'd expect you to be pretty robust now or he'll just hope you'll drift away.
