  • Thanks for posting the seatbelt law loulou. I have my 9 year old in the front every day and was starting to think i had been breaking the law.
Hope you get your door sorted out for not too much cash.
    Good luck.

I thought so long as they had the correct child seat they could sit in the front or back at any age? Surely the seat lifts then up for the correct height for the airbags?

Likewise. Remember seeing this about rear seat passengers often coming out of accidents worse than those in the front hanks to the work put into front passenger protection

I often let my wee one travel in the front if it is just me and him. Easier to speak to him without turning round and he tends to get travel sick in the back on longer journeys.

Didn't think it was breaking any rules, he's all boosted up etc.

EDIT - cheers fro clarifying louloulouisa!

I assumed that'd be too much of a faff for most people to keep moving every time they had a kid/adult in the front.

No weight in a booster seat, i just lift it and pop it behind the drivers seat when i get in if needing the passenger seat for someone else. Its only a bit of hard foam and not belted or bolted down. A full size baby seat would be a bit larger and need to go out the door and then in the other. lol

This morning, on the school run, I was pulling into a space in the car park. Just as I'd parked, my daughter opened her door (she was sitting in the front). At the very same time another Mum (who is a friend) went to drive into the space next to us, and Bang!

My car door is bent and cracked.

And the other cars bumper has a line on it, like the paint has come off.

My car is a Citroen C1, and her car is a Ford Fiesta Mark 3, I think!

Ironically her husband is a panel beater, but I think I may need a new door?!

    What do I do?
Is it worth making a claim or doing it ourselves?
    who's fault is it?

So difficult because she is a friend

    Thanks

    Lou xxx

Your door from pic looks like an easy repair, as suggested come to an agreement with friend and also worth asking if her husband can repair door as well to keep costs down. Would be cheaper to pay him rather than garage?

I reckon the insurers would spilt it 50/50.

Hitting a parked car while parking herself.
And they should have been expecting the door to open.

If your daughter had opened it into a parked car it would be different.
  • As said by others I would say it was your daughter's fault, doh!!!
Google gives you answers use it.........
  • Thanks guys

If he is a panel beater, Ask her to see if he can do anything as it could affect both parties premiums if a claim was made.

If they offer anything towards it or offer to repair it cheaply then snap their hands off.

Dont ask see if they offer. Ask to speak to her husband and phrase it like we had a little incident which dented the door and would rather get it fixed.
