whose fault, me or my freinds?

Options
This morning, on the school run, I was pulling into a space in the car park. Just as I'd parked, my daughter opened her door (she was sitting in the front). At the very same time another Mum (who is a friend) went to drive into the space next to us, and Bang!

My car door is bent and cracked.

And the other cars bumper has a line on it, like the paint has come off.

My car is a Citroen C1, and her car is a Ford Fiesta Mark 3, I think!

Ironically her husband is a panel beater, but I think I may need a new door?!

What do I do?
Is it worth making a claim or doing it ourselves?
who's fault is it?

So difficult because she is a friend

Thanks

Your fault imho.... when opening a door you should be aware of what's going on around you.
  • Sorry, Not what you want to hear. But its your daughters fault for not looking. The cost will fall to you.
I hate my kids opening doors as they never look and when i shout they argue they did look.

See, i'd say it was there fault, but obvs dont knwo the definate answer.

But surely if your pulling into a parking space you should be aware that the car next to you has recently pulled up, got occupants etc and they would likely be leaving their car soon. Personally in that type of situation if i notice someone looks like theyre getting out i find another spot, or wait till theyve left the car.
  • Thanks, yes I am always telling them to look before they open the door, and this time she was so quick

    Thanks

I'm also guessing she's over 12 (as she's in the front) ... so make her clean your car every week for a year to "pay" for the damage.
  • agree you daughters faults i'm affraid, this is why i alway put my children in the back and have child locks on o i can control the door being opened and closed.

come to an agreement, i would theres hardly any damage to you car apprt from the door edge and inner frame, a door from scrappy same colour and transfur of interior panel and some wiring blocks should sort that out, as for the bumper on her car there mabe some damage behind it like a cross member, ask her for two quotes from independant garages, or her husband and come to an agreement.
  • Thanks spadoosh

I must admit, if a car has just pulled in, I always wait to see if the passengers get out, but I know it was just an accident :undecided

I thought so long as they had the correct child seat they could sit in the front or back at any age? Surely the seat lifts then up for the correct height for the airbags?
  • She is 9, She sits in an appropriate car seat. http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/faqs/index.htm

But I guess its a lesson learnt, I will have to put her in the back with childlock on.

Thanks Atrix, I will try to come to an agreement with her

    Thanks everyone

I assumed that'd be too much of a faff for most people to keep moving every time they had a kid/adult in the front.
