  • ..Openreach engineer arrived (to change incoming cable, I thought), no, he tested the testsocket behind masterplate and pronounced line as being OK!!!

Back to Orange, who asked me to run speedtest AGAIN!!
The Speedtest.net website they wanted me to use, wouldn't even load!!

Going to escalate within Orange, will call back within 48 hours...
  • ...and now, indeed, Orange have called me back to say that they will call me again on Friday AM to arrange for a BT/Openreach >>BROADBAND<< engineer to test the signal again!!!
I said "but chap came yesterday and said line was ok...", caller implied that this had not been a BROADBAND engineer?!?! My fault on BT Tracking site CLEARLY indicated the .2 download speed as the issue!!!!
So another day off work...righthand doesn't seem to know what left hand is doing...

...Sky is beginning to look V attractive for Landline and BB...

Openreach seem to have an array of different engineers, who only do their bit and you have to wait until they decide to send the next one out.
  • SATURDAY 16.00call from Orange, BT haven't "closed' the call, they cannot progress this until BT close the call...
https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking... shows that the call is CLEARED. We debate the semantics of Cleared vs Closed, upshot is I need to call BT , ask them to close call and let Orange do their stuff...

Call BT using Fault reference from Faut Tracking... you can see where this is going can't you...you don't have broadband with us, sir...yes, I know but...

Any way he decides to do a linetest and he advises that their IS a fault on the line !!??!!?? and will arrange for BT Openreach to call out on WEDNESDAY ( seven days since last BT engineer called??!!** )

Honestly, this cr*pgame of ping pong between ISP and BT/Openreach GRRR!!!
Is there going to be any difference in joined up thinking if I jump to phone/BB with Sky/Sky, Orange/Orange - even to BT/BT as I gather Openreach is basically the tech providers for all the copperbased ISPs?

openreach is owned by the bt group, so yes you would get a better service. However once fixed there wont be issues
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

...and no-show by Openreach, called them 'pressure of calls'... call 9.00am Thursday and we'll try to offer you a slot Thursday, Friday...

Do these people have no concept of how one cannot readily take a halfday off work at a couple of hours notice?

...moving on - seems infrastructure is BTOpenreach no matter who I go with, do I swap my landline to Orange to retain free BB or swap both to Sky (existing customer), what effect does LLU lines have on me if I elect to move at end of a new contract , do I have to go back to BT for a period before I can consider another move? ( not one of Martin Lewis's tarts, was with BT phone for 15 years, my BB started with Freeserve and progressed via management changes to Orange/EE? but maybe I need to be more fickle...)

No slots on Friday, so Monday AM...ANOTHER half day...

Well bt turned up at 11.00, noise at test socket persists, checks junction box (GPO) in loft, noisy too, it's either the incoming cable from the pole, or something before this point...

Problem was at the pole, give the guy his due , he worked solidly through till just before 3.00... Mainly at the pole, but lengthy testing at the master socket (replaced the faceplate with new OpenReach plate).

He says line is good for 3.75 megs MAX... Advised to contact orange cos errors that flagged problem, cause speed to be capped at 0.2 Mbps . Orange been informed, told to connect to Test Socket, reset/reboot live box, Check live box stats over next 3 days as speed will build up?
    Is this really the case?

Yep. Speed should increase until it's stable at the max speed your line can handle.

20 hours into the 72 no appreciable speed difference...

    Should I be pursuing Orange?

No, just wait the allotted time you were told. After that you can open a can of whoppazz.
