Swap provider, jumping back?

Options
Hi there,
currently BT phone line, currently FREE Orange Broadband...

I 'm not a heavy user or downloader, Browsing and email.... Just as well as I don't have great service, BB drops out at times over an evening... YouTube stutters and stammers.

Am I likely to get better BB 'reception' from another provider? or is it the copper from exchange that's the issue?
BT's BB about £13 on top of phoneline cost

I already have SKY, so should I take their BB and Phone
or
Do I take Orange Phone Service to minimise my outgoing costs

Either way, is it the infrastructure that's throttling my BB, so no change whoever I use? and if I'm unhappy with them, how much might it cost to return to BT if necessary?
Thanks

More often than not broadband problems are self inflicted, poor internal wiring, use of extensions, nearby cordless base stations, filters missing or not fitted to all outlets and the dreaded bell wire.
If there are faults as above or line faults then swapping ISP will do nothing. FYI its the same BT OR engineer that would investigate the problem whoever the ISP you are with.

  • Surely nearby cordless base stations would opnly affect the wireless signal, not the actual broadband?

Yup, true, maybe OP was having trouble with the wireless as well?

  • Hi there,

as requested by Orange HelpDesk, plugged router into "test' socket behind faceplate of Master phone socket - stats .4mb/s Down, 0.6mbps UP - same as Office extension socket...

BT and Openreach are currently on the case - postcard from Openreach <<believe wire that feeds house needs renewed>>

...so, matters little who I go with, reliable connection is down to OpenReach?

These are not the stats we are looking for!

Need your upstream and downstream attenuation and noise margin figures.

There is something very wrong with your connection, with a 41 db line you should be getting a speed around 10Mbps.
Are these stats taken from the test socket, and when you are using the test socket are all your other phone extensions dead?
Is there a house alarm hard wired to the master?

Too true!! as I indicated Openreach are considering replacing line into the house.
(stats generated when router connected to testsocket behind masterplate - ie no other devices connected...)
