she picked up the printing and the last line when she finished reading the advert specified must write fluent Chinese.... I then pointed out that I was clearly not qualified, and I couldn't 'gain a knowledge' before interview - the response was I've printed the ticket now that means you have to apply.

So yes the job centre do push people to apply for jobs they are clearly never going to get... (She even said to me couldn't you use a google translator???? Yeah Like that's going to look fluent...)

When I worked with JCP, it was in Employer Liaison (ie. keeping them happy!). I'm glad that I didn't have anyone like her in my team... *shakes head*
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

I thought you had to make at least 3 'efforts' to find work a week? Why would people agree to 6 if they know there are not 6 jobs a week?

I did question it but was told if i didn't sign I would get no benefit.

My agreement is not just 6 actions but 6 applications AND all the other things such as looking on the jobcentre site, asking friends.

Lol at you people. You can easily apply for over 30 jobs per week if you're not restricting yourself by location and applying only for entry level manual work type of roles. 6 applications is not making a real effort to find a job. That's like spending several minutes - an hour at most 6 days a week applying for jobs.

I was told to make 3 different efforts to find work and I think mine were internet, local paper and direct.gov.

Might be different for other people though.

Last week I applied for 29 jobs - bit of a slow week for me.

29 is still ok, but when people are applying the bare minimum, 3 jobs per week... I think it goes to show they aren't really wanting to work that badly. Back when I was unemployed, I used to randomly apply for entry level office and retail jobs using a generic CV, and then some more with a tailored CV. When you apply like that you can apply for over 30 jobs per week on average. It's not easy getting an offer or interview, but to only make an application, that's easy as it gets.

Nowadays when people just send generic CVs other people seem to complain that they aren't making their CV specific to the role.

And the number of roles that can be applied for is surely dependent on where you are in the country. 30 might not be achievable in some areas.

never thought of that, there was me limiting my search to 1.5 hours from home, but now I will apply for jobs 300 miles away, not sure how I could affort to get there for the interview, never mind affording to move there is I was so lucky to get the min wage job.

I apply for lots of jobs that are junior roles but I know with 20+ years experience in my field they will just dismiss me. When I apply for shop work I have no shop experience in the last 25 years therefore they will just dismiss me too but I have shown willing to apply for all types of jobs. All the replies I do get that say I am over qualified I take to the job centre and get them to put it in my record file as proof. They just shrug their shoulders at me

If you are offered an interview somewhere in the country, immediately go to the job centre with the email printed out and give them the employer's contact phone number. Say you can't afford to travel for the interview and they'll give you a voucher to exchange for train tickets. Remember it must be an inteview, not an assessment centre, and you must let the job centre know before you attend the interview.
