200 Applications for 1 job?
Comments
-
my guess would be as to claim JSA you have to apply for any job, I bet it is really unsetting employers to have to go through hundreds of applications of people that don't want the job or are not suited to the job.
Possibly but I am not so sure, if you had 200 applications taken over the course of a week may be but in 1 day? I bet the majority are people like me on the ball keeping an eye out for a job, and the fact you had to go to the store to get the application, if you don't really want the job I don't think your gonna bother.0 -

I know it is hard for you, and sometimes (although not this time) you are your own worst enemy. But I wanted to say that I've kind of grown fond of you, even though you can be really negative at times!!!
If I may say so - and I am going to anyway - you do have some real problems and that's life. It's also relative. Some you can control, some you can't. You have a little control over where you live, but not a lot (now!) and you live in a blighted area of the economy. You absolutely DO have control over that driving licence - get it! You aren't lacking in intelligence - get those qualifications you need. You have a few mental health issues - they may seem insurmountable to you, but honestly, they really aren't!!! You turn here to strangers - trust the people around you; and get some help too!
Relative to...? I am going to West Africa. Last year they had no rains and they starved. This year they had floods and they're starving. You've heard me say before, I am sure you have, how I love the job I "normally" do. This is it. How ordinary human beings, just like you, will face impossible odds to survive. And if they can't survive, to make sure their children do. Without having an MSE board for their problems or to check out if they can claim any benefits!
Can I make a suggestion? Your employer really isn't at all nice. You live in a blighted area of the UK (and there are a lot of those). You actually have a lot of control over this. You can change you. You can change where you live. You can change that darned driving licence!!! Do it.
Because these are all privileges. They are within your control. The only thing stopping you is you. This is "commonplace".
Bravery is taking your children across 50/ 70 / 150 (or more) miles on foot when you are all starving, giving every scrap of your food to the children, knowing that in doing so you are condemning yourself to almost certain death to save (hopefully) your children.
Most people in the UK would make the same decision - most of them never need to!
I've watched and seen and often responded to your posts over the last six months or so. You are better than what you sometimes believe you are - you are certainly better than your excuses! While I deal with a child literally dying of starvation, are you going to whinge about what you cannot do - or are you going to do something about it???
I really hope it's going to be the latter.
If we don't speak again - or not for some time - I wish you well. Stop looking for excuses. Just do it.
I don't know what to write after a post like that to be honest. I suppose work like yours really does put everything in perspective and makes folks like me sound pathetic, but yeah thanks for all your help over the past few months :T
As for my driving yes I will get around to it but my Open Uni course comes first, yes well I live in a blighted area, Northern Ireland as a whole seems to be a blighted area, when the news said last week unemployment dropped, it once again rose over here and it has been for god knows how many months now, last week also on local news it was announced that a large factory was closing with the loss of 750 jobs min and yesterday announced that some big software company was opening up shop with god knows how many jobs for "I.T professionals" and that is the entire problem over here, lack of low paid work and having a driving license isn't gonna fix that, the only fix is gonna be retraining, there are plenty of jobs in my area, plenty of jobs in N.I as a whole if your a graduate it seems.0 -
Thanks for that:beer: I searched around there website for that the other night and couldn't find it. But all printed off now.0 -
Northern Ireland
In that case;

Apologies. Why they have to have separate forms for United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, I don't know... (they do appear to be largely the same, however). Thanks for that:beer: I searched around there website for that the other night and couldn't find it. But all printed off now.
No worries, but do see above"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

relatively little technical experience required(full training given), major global brand, excellent reputation and benefits, service/sales role, pay well over £7 ph, flexible hours,
From a job hunters point of view, this would often sound like a largely commision-led sales role, possibly offering something IT-related to potential customers. £7 per hour is barely over the minimum wage, and most people with the skills/nous to do a sales role would be expecting more than that as a basic.
I advertised a reception role last year, £11 per hour, fixed hours, experience required. 150 applications. Once I'd removed the unskilled, unqualified, grammatically incorrect or educationally defective (one spelled 'school' as 'sghool') I was left with eight candidates. Three were eliminated at telephone interview for using terrible language skills (I do not intend to hire a receptionist who describes the salary as 'sick, like, cos dats a lotta moneeeeee') and I interviewed the other five in person. One admitted at interview that she had lied about her experience, but was willing to 'give it a try'. I wanted to bang my head on the table until the shouty voices went away.
It's all well and good doing the 'Some people don't want to work for a living' thing, but for many people, minimum wage wouldn't be a living. It would barely be existing for those with kids, and many people do not suit sales roles, particularly telesales. I have done it, and was good at it, but I wouldn't do it again for diamonds, much less £7 per hour.
Keep plugging away Falko, something will change for you soon. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

The more Jobcentres make people fire off dozens of applications for unsuitable jobs they don't want anyway, the less chance they will have of ever actually getting one.
We get dozens of applications for any job we advertise. Most clearly haven't even read the description and applied themselves to the application.
This makes it much easier for an employer to sift them, because we are then justified in being much more arbitrary (ie unfair) in rejecting them.
In effect I sit with a wastepaperbasket on one side and a very small intray on the other. I pick up each application and throw it in the wpb, unless, rarely, something stands out that causes me to put it in the other pile.
When I have about 6 in the small pile I read them carefully and select a few for interview.
Hard luck on all the others - blame the Jobcentre. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
2 days? Surely the CV should get you down to 10? Quick phone interview would get you down to 3-5. Interview rest. Two half days.
Well a good CV will get you shortlisted if done right. Watch out for the homophones when doing your cv;
principal (teacher) principle (morals)
complement (add value) compliment (give praise)
discreet (hidden) discrete (separate).
It's so easy to get it wrong.:)0 -

your missing my main point, people HAVE TO apply for jobs to get benefits, I have to apply for 6 advertised jobs a week, I find it hard to do that, so I have to apply for some I know I am very unlikely to get.
As this job is said to be low skilled, it is ripe for those with no qualification or experience to apply, it's another ticked box for JSA.0 -

I thought you had to make at least 3 'efforts' to find work a week? Why would people agree to 6 if they know there are not 6 jobs a week?0 -
The last round of advertising done when I worked for the NHS had 274 applications for 2 positions - however the fact that there were 2 was not specified at the time of going to advert.... (That was two years ago now)...
Don't be disheartened by the number of applications given out 90% of the 274 applications went straight in the no pile. Just fill it out to the best of your ability - and sell yourself.
And when signing on last summer I was pushed into applying for a job, because the advisor read me half the description and then printed me the ticket.... I said it seemed like a lot of money for what they were asking - she picked up the printing and the last line when she finished reading the advert specified must write fluent Chinese.... I then pointed out that I was clearly not qualified, and I couldn't 'gain a knowledge' before interview - the response was I've printed the ticket now that means you have to apply.
So yes the job centre do push people to apply for jobs they are clearly never going to get... (She even said to me couldn't you use a google translator???? Yeah Like that's going to look fluent...)
