200 Applications for 1 job?

A job appeared yesterday evening on the Jobcentre website for Homebase, 39 hours sales assistant, to apply you had to go to the store to get an application, so I said I would call in after work today, called in the advisor told me they had 200 application forms and all are gone:( I missed the last one by about half an hour. May be its just around here but there seems to be a real lack of low paid work as this goes to show, all application forms gone in 24 hours,

my guess would be as to claim JSA you have to apply for any job, I bet it is really unsetting employers to have to go through hundreds of applications of people that don't want the job or are not suited to the job.0

Hi Falko - I am afraid I am off next week (back to my normal work - disaster relief) and won't be around much, if at all. I know it is hard for you, and sometimes (although not this time) you are your own worst enemy. But I wanted to say that I've kind of grown fond of you, even though you can be really negative at times!!!
If I may say so - and I am going to anyway - you do have some real problems and that's life. It's also relative. Some you can control, some you can't. You have a little control over where you live, but not a lot (now!) and you live in a blighted area of the economy. You absolutely DO have control over that driving licence - get it! You aren't lacking in intelligence - get those qualifications you need. You have a few mental health issues - they may seem insurmountable to you, but honestly, they really aren't!!! You turn here to strangers - trust the people around you; and get some help too!
Relative to...? I am going to West Africa. Last year they had no rains and they starved. This year they had floods and they're starving. You've heard me say before, I am sure you have, how I love the job I "normally" do. This is it. How ordinary human beings, just like you, will face impossible odds to survive. And if they can't survive, to make sure their children do. Without having an MSE board for their problems or to check out if they can claim any benefits!
Can I make a suggestion? Your employer really isn't at all nice. You live in a blighted area of the UK (and there are a lot of those). You actually have a lot of control over this. You can change you. You can change where you live. You can change that darned driving licence!!! Do it.
Because these are all privileges. They are within your control. The only thing stopping you is you. This is "commonplace".
Bravery is taking your children across 50/ 70 / 150 (or more) miles on foot when you are all starving, giving every scrap of your food to the children, knowing that in doing so you are condemning yourself to almost certain death to save (hopefully) your children.
Most people in the UK would make the same decision - most of them never need to!
I've watched and seen and often responded to your posts over the last six months or so. You are better than what you sometimes believe you are - you are certainly better than your excuses! While I deal with a child literally dying of starvation, are you going to whinge about what you cannot do - or are you going to do something about it???
I really hope it's going to be the latter.
If we don't speak again - or not for some time - I wish you well. Stop looking for excuses. Just do it.0 -
Have a good time Marybelle, i really admire anyone who's willing to give up so much here to help others. Stay safe.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Thank you but I don't think I am a "hero", and I definitely don't think I am giving anything up. I have "done" wars and disasters for 30 years. I have gained more than I have ever given. No matter the personal cost, I have always gained more inspiration than I have lost! I didn't mean to detract from Falko's post, just to give him some perspective.0 -

It's not just unsettling, it's costly and a waste of time. A few weeks ago we have 2 full days of interviews set up for a full time administrator. On the first day just 2 out of the 7 applicants turned up and on the 2nd day 4 out of 7 turned up. None of the applicants who didn't show called to rearrange or cancel. If they hadn't bothered accepting the interview (which they always knew they weren't going to attend) we could have held the interviews over just 1 day instead of 2 and not wasted a whole day's work. Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -

I feel for you but please understand that JSA claimants are told to apply for jobs even if not suited to them, I have to apply for 6 jobs a week.
Also there are costs of going to interviews, a £2-£3 bus ticket may not sound a lot but it is when on benefits and if it's to go to an interview for a job you are not going to get then it feels a total waste of money.
Cancelling is an option but maybe they are thinking not turning up is less risking then ringing and cancelling and may be the jobcentre finding out?
Or I could be totally wrong and people are just rude :huh:0 -

Alternatively - we could all know that Falko is in employment and not claiming JSA! Not trying to be awkward here - but if you don't know that you are possibly the only person who doesn't!!!
Like I said - I haven't been around long and sometimes he exasperates me, even though I quite like him- but anyone on this board for the last six months knows Falko! And the fcat he has a (we mostly agree) difficult employer!0 -

Like suggested here why not go into the store and or call them or email a CV in or see if the job is advertised online?0 -
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."
