  • hows it going NP? our old house I stripped fireplaces, skirting board and picture rails throughout but did cheat and have the doors dipped.

Haven't managed to summon the energy up to do it completely in this house... Do love the look though. The new bit of the house is all natural wood and most of the doors are stripped, just need to finish ...

Hows your stripper? I used stripper but started with a heat gun first. Also bought a cheaper version of the stripper. Nasty Nasty stuff!!

I am very glad that you've asked about my house plans lula (although would have just told you anyway)

    Dining room
French doors length of wall overlooking back garden
Small wood burning (or possibly gas) stove
Purchase oak table with green leather (modern chairs) - I think the green will look good as lots of green from trees and bushes in garden so would like to make this room an extension of the garden, and vice versa

    Bedroom
    Ensuite:D

    Kitchen
White, high gloss units with either granite, or that sparkly expensive work top
    Cool industrial type ceiling lights

    Bathroom
Suite ripped out, and if possible (room wise), separate shower cubicle and floating toilet (a must!) floor stripped back to natural wood I think ...

    Utility
Properly insulated and perhaps extended out into garden to make a separate utilty/sunroom.

    Garden (back)
Outbuilding at bottom to be completely refurbished into a garden party room (electrics installed), pond with trickling water cascading, lights on trees, seating areas at all sunny spots, hammock.

    Garden (front)
Uplighters at bushes and lots of scented plants and herbs.
    New garage door

    I think that's all:D

Of course for this all to happen I will need to win the lottery, or get a giganterous salary increase (or sell my mum's house...but don't like to think about that)

  • All doable.

I sanded down our old dining room with DH sander - took forever but I did it. same with grotty fireplace and the dreaded nitromors.

A lot of stuff its just about looking, I desperately wanted Aqualisa Aquatique shower and valve (rrp about £800) and spent months on ebay and eventually got for the same price as a bog standard b and q shower. Same with my doors, took me months to gather them together at a price happy to pay. Plus sold surplus and ended up being £70 in +ve,

I always work out a price I want to pay and stick to it and eventually...

Would have loved a fitted bathroom in old house but couldnt afford, but this house I was determined, so it was a matter of ex display / factory shop. I dont think its noticeable but a fraction of the cost.

Right Im back off soap box, sorry, 2 glasses of wine (off tomoz yay) and I go gobby

Oh wow! Sounds amazing. Puts my plans in the shade completely. I want to do boring stuff like correcting a poorly fitted internal door and repairing a damaged drain. Although I do eventually have plans to demolish the porch and replace it. Not for a long time, though. Do keep us posted with your progress with your house. How are you going to balance out OPing the mortgage and paying for all those lovely improvements?

Edit: Oh, I see, these aren't actual "get quotes and get it done in the next six months" kind of plans. Well, just think, once you're mortgage free, you'll be able to start saving for doing the place up, and maybe you'll be able to make those plans a reality. Yet another reason for bringing down that mortgage. :D
    Starting again 13/4/19
    Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99
    Total owed: £28,801.49

Ha ha, yes these were my 'I've started to strip a door, so what can can I do' masterplan;)
The mortgage reduction is number one priority, and even if cash were freed up, I can assure you I would most definitely be a one-room-at-a-time kinda gal:D
During the spring I will be able to do small things such as planting further herbs, scented flowers - and maybe even purchase another garden seat - but nothing bank breaking:)
This is one of the things I enjoy about the 'forever home' - the visualisation may be currently in my minds eye.....but one day:)
