Does anyone else have the same worries about interest rates shooting skywards in the years to come? There's going to be a lot of people in trouble as they borrowed to their max when rates were at the lowest. At least we're all trying to minimise the effect of this.
I worry about it all the time. However, my mortgage is structured in such a way that if I overpay now, whilst the sun is shining, should interest rates shoot up to unmanageable levels, I'll be safe in the knowledge that:
1. I'm used to overpaying so will probably still be able to make the payments.
2. If they shoot up to unmanageable limits, in the short term, whilst i restructure my finances, I can underpay and use up the overpayments (not that this will be nice as it will undo lots of hard work)
There are lots of people who will be caught out. We can't help them but we can stand ready to assist once they find the forum.

I totally worry about the interest rates going up (not to mention utility bills etc too!)
It is totally my motivation for op'ing. I was paying £1k extra each month before the rates went down. I don't want to give that to the bank each month and stay in work til I'm 80!Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I started to think I was the only one! My friends and family are living in their little bubbles and seem to not to want to know about anything that will cause pain in future!
I've got a banging headache this morning but I'm forcing myself to stay at work. I don't want to lose a days money, the joys of self employed! I've been here an hour and a half but not earned anything yet! Argh! I would've gone home by now in the pre-OP'ing days! Best get on with it now!Mortgage at Highest- £126.995 Aug 2006

Self employed was my best work decision. Freedom and flexible, I love it.
Not achieving much today though, hence my regular posting here!

From the pictures I've seen of your creations, you'd have been daft not to set up on your own. Why should someone else cream off the profits of your skills. Does take commitment though doesn't it? And any notion of 9-5 goes out of the window. There's always stuff to be doing....promotion, accounts, credit control, admin, filing, preparation.......Mortgage at end 05/2007: £90200

Very kind of you. But I am daft most of the time! I'm now moving my work more into pricing and doing my own jobs completely by myself. This is as well as my contracted work to companies which has been my regular work. A much better direction for me. I've made myself a leaflet brochure that I will distribute to the local schools. This is starting to take off now as its providing me with extra work and income.
I can change and achieve anything I set my mind to. The hard bit for me is to get me started in the first place!!!
Went to the bank and OP'd £86.85.
£2.50 cheque to my partner from the Co-op from a food promotion.
£54.35 from the interest in my old ISA, now closed this account.
£20 from little guy birthday money.
£10 now started to collect £2 coins in my change.Mortgage at Highest- £126.995 Aug 2006

Forgot to say, on the way to the bank. I stopped off at evil McDonalds! I've been collecting the coffee tokens you get on the cups from our site agent at work. He couldn't be bothered to save them, so I did! Picked up a £1.69 coffee for free and only need 2 more tokens for the next one. I didn't buy any yucky food either! I like free coffee!Mortgage at Highest- £126.995 Aug 2006
