Small amounts soon add up, I sent an OP of £5 the other day ha ha I am sure it will take the bank more to process it but it is paid and £5 closer to my target ha ha
:) Been here for a long time and don't often post
  • Good luck on your mortgage free journey! It must feel very liberating being free of the fixed rate mortgage - personally I am counting the days until December when our 5.99% fixed rate ends, which we've waited five years for!

As lots of other people seem to say on this forum, it's the little things that count as much as the big overpayments, so bagging up coins and selling off unwanted property is definitely the way to go!

  • When we took out the fixed rate deal, it was fine as it meant we could start the mortgage. BUT the pain in the !!! was Chelsea not letting us change to a new deal which would've saved money. Each time we enquired, there was a new reason why we didn't meet the criteria.

  • Nice little step tonight, sold some car rear lights that were just sat in the basement for £40. Will be OP on Sat. I'll be on the case with clearing more parts out asap!

  • I paid in the £40 from the lights the other day, I found another £15 to put with it, so £55 for the week.

Pleased with myself today. I found an uncashed cheque in the drawer for £25 this morning, that can go in. My better half gave me some money and I saved £15 from not spending it on a night out. So, £215 went in OP for today. That makes £514 for the month (well 2 weeks since starting this!). Thing is I've not missed the money (yet!).

PPI cheque should be on its way next week, so that can go in also.

Got to keep digging out bits in the basement to sell.

Thanks for all the support and making this very addictive, love it!

You're right when you say people think you're mad for doing it. I've had no more of a response from friends than 'oh right' and a quick change of subject by them!

They'll think you're weird so don't bother mentioning it. Then when you've paid it off they'll think you're 'lucky' :rotfl:.

There is another spreadsheet by locoblade but I don't have a link I'm afraid.

    Great start :T.

My dad started off as a chippy and I still use the step ladders he made :D. One of the steps has split - are you available for commisions ;). Must measure it and ask local store to cut me one.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

You're so right about people, I've now stopped saying anything. I don't want friends to think I'm rubbing it in or being a show-off at all. That bit about 'lucky' is spot on, I've had that after working and saving hard to buy something.

Haha, I could do some long distance chippying work!

Hi Matt and welcome to the addiction!

This is a direct link to locoblades latest spreadsheet. If you want to read around it or just post thanks to locoblade his thread is here on the mortgage and endowments board. This is a really useful tool to see how mush you are saving.

Oh, conggratulations on amassing such a fantastic OP in just two weeks by the way!

    All the best,
    Spigs
