Would you give money to a child at the door?

Why can't you just for a minute step back and think that these kids were just being entrepreneurial?, nobody knows for sure but I think it's fantastic that 2 kids are out there trying to earn some pocket money rather than it just being handed on a plate to them while they sit in in front of an Xbox all day every day. Isn't this how some of our greatest business leaders started out, I'm thinking Richard Branson, Bill Gates etc
Since when was begging regarded as entrepreneurial? I'm not sure either Richard Branson or Bill Gates started out knocking on doors asking for money :eek:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I would pay them to wash a car. I think it's good that they are trying to earn money if they want it. We have local sea cadets, and in over a decade, they just appear every year asking for money - never to do a job, which I don't mind once in a while, but it wears thin after several years. I do think that they should put some effort into getting the money.
I'd rather these children be able to earn the odd bit of money rather than discover that it's not worth the while trying to earn, and simply resort to illegal means.
Having said that, I would be picky about the people being employed - a couple were canvassing my street about window cleaning. I would have said yes, but the fact that one of them gobbed on the street just before coming up my path put me off them - I don't want to encourage someone like that to frequent my street!0 -
Reminds me of the time my child started earning money, selling sweets to pals0

I do think it's a good thing to encourage children to earn pocket money, but that was done at home when I was young (I.e was Dad's car for a fiver, strip wall paper) etc. I don't think there is anything wrong with offering to walk a neighbours dog or mow their lawn but I don't think it's right to knock on strangers doors. Especially aged six or seven!0

No, I wouldn't.0

No, I wouldn't have given any money and I would probably also have had a word with our local police officer. I would be worried about the child's safety.0

Ds1 is now an adult and still has that drive to make a little bit extra
Lol. He sounds adorable! :rotfl:0 -
No. If it was my next door neighbour's little boy, who I know, and whose parents I know, that would be different, and I would want to encourage him
But no way would I be letting an unknown 7 year old wash my car, and certainly not handing out money at the door.

My son and his friend when young had a regular little round washing cars and really enjoyed it, my son now has a brilliant job and is also a director, his friend has his own roofing business , so in all honesty I dont think it hurt either of them.
They both have very good work ethicsTreat other's how you like to be treated.
