I've been stiffed by these cowboys as well. Unfortunately my company pays these fines up front and requests the money from us afterwards, making it impossible to take the approach you are taking! I don't live near Whitby, so I haven't been able to go back and review the signage, but I'd love to get a copy of the shots you took.this though!

Everyone I mention this too always says the same thing - how hypocritical the Co-op are to call themselves an ethical company, when they indulge in this kind of scam. I think there should be a campaign to shame the businesses that subcontract to these cowboys, rather than target these leeches directly. The real damage that can be done is to the reputations of businesses like the Co-op.

Check your Private Messages (PM) for a link to a fb page with some useful info - just sent it. Check again if about a week, should be a full set of pics of signs going into and around the site. You will also find out why their paperwork is so flawed any judge will laugh like a lunatic!

I'm not putting the link direct onto here just yet. Just trust all the advice you've seen on here.

The recent bank holiday we had a day out to Whitby, always stayed in that car park. My dad went to get a ticket from the machine outside the coop, he paid for 4 hours, put his registration number in, it also said you didn't have to display tickets in the car but my dad did anyway. We left after 3 hours. No signs to display anything were seen.

Two weeks later a letter comes demanding money. £45 if paid within 14 days or a £90 fine!

Why should we pay when we paid and left before the time.

You seem to have only found a random old thread from 2012. There's a whole forum here answering your questions zillions of times over in every reply. This is NOT a fine at all as you will learn from current threads:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

Read a few current threads - not just about CEL, and learn how to challenge this fake PCN and then win with a super-strong well-worded POPLA appeal.

Maybe he keyed a slight typo in the car reg so if you still have the P&D ticket, take a photocopy of it and send the copy (only the copy) with a challenge which DOES NOT STATE who was driving. All written in the third person from the registered keeper's point of view 'the driver paid and here's a copy of their P&D ticket' or 'the car was parked' (NOT here is my P&D ticket'!).

Please start your own thread (when you have read up on POPLA) as this is an archive thread! You need to read threads and not ignore this.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • OK, at long last CEL have been booted. so now:-
I'm calling on all friends, neighbours and relatives and all their friends and enemies to back my petition to demand the repeal of Schedule 4 of Protection of Freedom Act 2012.

Private Parking Management Companies are now out of control and still their market is being expanded. £90+ fines for overstaying by 15 minutes when you only parked to spend money is highway robbery. ROBBERY!

Click on ...http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/55493 and sign and stop them!

    Please share this very generously!

(Hope I'm not breaking any rules, sorry the thread is a bit old, but this is a conclusion of sorts.)

There are actually a number of things in schedule 4 that help us. Timescales, content of NtK, etc.

I have no problem with getting the bathwater emptied, but you are chucking baby away as well.

I think the PPCs will be the first to sign your petition as it stands. Sorry.
  • I feel the best way forward is to repeal section 4 and rewrite the legislation with a title bearing a relation to its subject. Does not the idea of redesigning it appeal?

I've read lots of threads on several forum sites, and have never seen mention of a sum of money which gets near to a reasonable estimate of loss incurred. I'll send you further details on a PM.

I would rather see the most aggressive PPCs simply die out when retailers, hotels, hospitals etc realise what is happening under their noses purely for profit.
