Tackling my Debt and Simplifying My Life

  • Thanks brizzle, we have transfered the money now, so we got 6months of 0% and intend to really work hard at paying as much as we can.

DH has been busy this weekend jet-washing other large patio area in our back garden, its taken a back breaking 10hours - but it looks so much better, hope potential buyers will be impressed!

I have been busy cleaning, washing and ironing between going over and caring for my parents - back to work again tomorrow - the weekends go so quickly.

Was gutted to open my post yesterday and find the yearly fee I pay to be registered as a nurse has increased from £76 last year to £100 this year - I am so annoyed - that's a 25% rise in a year!! I really didn't expect that - and thasts on top of the RCN UNION fees I pay to ensure I have indemnity insurance as a nurse - it will cost me almost £300 to do my job this year.

I know I should be grateful to have a job, and one which I love so I shouldn't complain.

Oops, just realised the time, gotta collect DS from swimming, be back later!

  • Amongst all my debt-busting, I continue to clear the clutter and simplify life.

Had a good sort of underwear drawer yesterday (I know how to live!!!). Now my not-so-smalls are all folded and sorted into colours and look lovely in the drawer. I even showed my sister when she popped in - she was inspired to go home and do hers!

Today I culled my make-up drawer. I have kept only the make-up I wear daily and its now clean and easy to get to.

Most of the house is now de-cluttered, however there is always more I can do. It does help with the cleaning of the house, it takes much less time now there's little junk to sort before I clean.

My plan of washing clothes less is working well. It saves so much time not to be , drying and ironing three times a week (9 loads). Now I wear things several times, so does DH and DS (if I'm lucky). Now I only wash on a Friday night (3 loads) - I hope to see reduction in electric bill next quarter.

Off to get stuff ready for work now, another week........

You are claiming these fees against your tax I hope!

That's a very large increase in fees GL, I don't suppose your wages have also gone up by 25% have they, I'm guessing not.

Fingers crossed the potential buyers like the clean patio :D

Must look into tax, cheers igamogram.

Positive news today, had a letter from Canada Square Operations acknowledging the PPI complaint and report they'll get back to me within 4weeks - fingers crossed.

NSD today - hopefully will manage a few more in Feb.

Estate agent called - we have a viewing on the house for Saturday- unfortunately the couple haven't sold their property yet - but you never know.

Have booked friday off work to do some cleaning.

    Hope everyone is well.

Hi, best of luck with getting a good offer.

Very impressed by your clothes washing routine....sounds good and also the decluttering of the makeup....think I need to tackle that bathroom cabinet...yes you have inspired me..I will add that to the top of my list for this week

Your plan for Friday sounds a little excessive though...maybe a bath and a good book instead??!!!!:rotfl:

  • Thanks brizzle, hope you get that cabinet de-cluttered! Think I might try to have half day cleaning on Friday then the rest of day relaxing with my book.

Have looked into the tax rebate on nursing and union fees - I can claim, will fill the form in later. Cheers Igamogam!

NSD for me! Hope to have a few more next week.

Hope everyone safe and warm - we have had some snow today but its raining now thank goodness.

Off to fill in that form..........

  • Well, I spent all Friday cleaning, in prepartion for the viewing. Got up yest and did a few finishing touches before making ourselves scarce for the estate agent to show the viewers around at midday.

We got back at 12.20 in the hope of waiting up the road til viewers left then catching the estate Agent for feedback, but no-one was at the house! Gutted! Pretty certain someone had been around as all the bedroom doors had been closed- tried to call EA for feedback but nothing yet. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

We have been naughty and had a couple of takeaways at the weekend, chinese on Friday night because I didnt want to cook and mess up the kitchen and chip last night as we took advantage if the fine weather and started painting the outside of the house and didnt stop til dark. But thats it for the rest of the month, going to be strict at meal-planning.

Almost the start of another week- time flies! Going to try to be positive and am really going to try not to spend anything that isnt essential.

Might think about starting a spending log in this diary- has anyone else tried it?

Off to do the ironing- poor DH is continuing to paint outside of house, it looks so much better.

Hope everyone has a nice evening!

Spending log - I keep a diary actually its an old 2012 that was never used so I just change the dates in it - but there are lots of cheap ones around that the moment - only need a small pocket one. It is handy to keep track
