Wing Mirror Dilemma - Who should pay...

It would take a severe case of idiocy to push hard enough to break it without thinking something was up. Of course, we don't know that the OP's friend isn't an idiot. In which case, more fool the OP for trusting them to not **** up something as simple as folding in a wing mirror.societys_child wrote: »They tried to comply with the request, it snapped. Sounds like the mechanism was jammed, hardly the passengers fault.
It's the not noticing that something was obviously wrong that's the passenger's fault.societys_child wrote: »To then ask for how much? £200? get real.
I'm not defending the OP for asking. I'm just flabbergasted that almost everyone is attacking the OP for asking, not attacking the friend for failing to offer.
£200 I can't believe.0 -
Buy a second hand one off the bay of e or from a scarp yard for £20. I'm often having to replace mine.

Older models i.e. before 2005 tend to have wing mirrors that are easier to push in.
Personally as a driver I don't ask people to push in my wing mirrors.
I've had some people try and if I know they are not mechanically minded I stop them.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Not at all, firstly we're talking about a Jazz hereand . . . I never fold my mirrors in because so much force is needed!
Just maybe the friend doesn't drive, has no experience whatsoever in the noble art of "wing-mirror-folding-in":rotfl:
Just maybe the friend thought, "this is awfully stiff but the driver said it folds, so it must fold" . . . doesn't make them an idiot.0 -
Think you need to think about what matters in the world, and friendship goes way beyond £200 in my opinion.
Quite a few years back, a good mate of mine wrote off the best car I've ever owned. I was just glad he was ok and no one was hurt, he eventually paid me back for it, but at his insistance, not mine.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
If I broke it I would offer to pay however if I was the OP I would not ask a friend to pay for accidental damage, it is a tough one.0

You can infact pick up a mirror less than £50. If it costs £200 it must need rewired, meaning you have electric mirrors so why didnt you use the switch?:eek:Living frugally at 24
