Friend????? you wouldn't be my friend for very long with an attitude like that - I would be surprised if you had any friends - unbelievable!

I was driving to the beach with my friend when were were looking for a place to park.I found a place to park down a narrow road, and after I had parallel parked, I asked my friend to turn in the wing mirror of my 2005 Honda Jazz. I'm not sure what happened, but she said she had difficulty turning it in, so got behind it and pushed it again. This snapped the wing mirror off the holding unit, leaving it effectively hanging by its wires. We were able to force it back in on the journey back.

The dilemma is that my friend does not want to pay as she feels that as I asked her to do it, it voids her of all responsibility of paying for the repair (which I've been told can be around £200). I feel that she broke the wing mirror and therefore should pay for it, the wing mirror before was working fine (I have turned it in myself, as well as my dad). I personally feel pretty angry about paying for a wing mirror which I didn't damage at all! What do you MSE's think?

I would pay it myself but if I was your friend I would have offerred to pay at least some of it too.

I also think that with some of the answers above that a number of the posters need to get off their high horses !!

Ps You can get loads of Jazz wing mirrors on ebay too.......
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

I would have at least offered to pay half if I was your friend, but you asking them to pay it all is a bit much if you ask me.
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful
  • You were driving,
    you were in charge,
you asked her to fold it in,
    she did as you asked,
    it's your responsibility.

Can't believe you expect your friend to pay
  • Get yourself a no win no fee solicitor.Get down the doctors and get yourself put on prozac. Then sue her for mental anguish and feelings of sexual inadequacy and gender uncertainty because everyone is now calling you "That tw*t in the Jazz".
  • I have no friends :(

Did she? Hell of a difference between folding a wing mirror in and pushing it so hard it snaps off.

Can't believe how few people are astonished that it's got this far without the friend offering to pay. Would none of you have offered straight away? You lot must all be real gits to your friends!

How is the friend supposed to know how much force is required?

They tried to comply with the request, it snapped. Sounds like the mechanism was jammed, hardly the passengers fault. To then ask for how much? £200? get real.

Why don't you just go halves?
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
