It very confusing as I've added the movies and sport and it says £15.25 per month or £50.50 when discounts have finished. I think is an error that they don't want to make clear :)

I had a lengthy online chat with an adviser. To me, mine looked like it was £0.75 a month for 12 months. But if you look it says (with offers). So I queried what the (with offers) meant. They said the set up cost of £10 that you pay, gets refunded on month one. Then from month two, the £10 isn't refunded again so it is actually £10.75 a month from there. It is pretty sneaky how they are wording it tbh. But I would hazard a guess that you'd pay £15.25 in month one then £25.25 a month from month two onwards. Could be completely wrong of course but just double check it to make sure. Sorry for sticking my beak in but thought best to say something.....

Sorry - posted at same time!
  • Yes, it is very sneaky but when you think about it when it sounds to good to be true it usually is!!
Cheaper initial/monthly outlay than the cashback sites and at least is guaranteed

    Just double checked again..

Have Sky entertainment with Sports 1 and 2.

Monthly cost with offer applied £11.25
    Monthly cost without offers £42.50

+ £10.00 upfront payment. Wonder if there might be a glitch as this is what I am expecting to pay.

The key is it says the 'monthly cost with offers'.
You will be paying £11.25 + £10 a month after your initial £11.25 in month one. I hope I am wrong but just triple check it as when you're signing up your direct debit details, it does show the lower cost but the key words are with offers.

Mine showed as £0.75 a month for 12 months which I thought can't possibly be right. And it wasn't....

This then is totally misleading. I will check again when I get the advisers call. I will not go ahead if if I am not going to get the price I initially thought of £11.25 per month.
  • Just got off the phone with an advisor and can confirm the quoted price on the screen when you sign up is £10 less per month than what you'll end up paying. We went or entertainment extra plus movies and sport with the "monthly cost" showing as £17.75 but when I queried it they confirmed that is your initial first month price and includes the £10 one off charge. We cancelled straight away.
Smashed through my weightloss target. Looking at 120lbs+ loss. BMI over 40 down to 20.5. Training hard to get body fat under 20%, not far to go now :j
  • Siren1974 - agreed, soooo misleading and very, very sneaky. I cancelled too once I'd got them to admit that you only get the price on screen for the 1st month.

Is it actually 'misleading' at all - the Entertainment pack is £21.50 normally and is priced at £10.75 after a 50% discount. MSE are surprisingly offering us a 50% discount code - therefore you should expect to pay £10.75. It isn't sneaky or underhand in my opinion - just very poorly set-out by Sky. Look at the MSE page itself - it states exactly what you can expect to pay.

Companies like Sky normally deserve all the criticism they receive but in this instance it seems like there are a few customers that were trying, once again, to capitalise on a loop hole. I'd be happy for you if it worked but it isn't worth whining when it doesn't.

EDIT: My god, it actually sets out the discount when you intially click the special MSE link. Additionally it states under the first monthly costs section (on the right-hand side) that 'Upfront payment discount: GBP 10 off TV - month 1 only'. Poorly worded, yes, but does anyone think Sky are going to let you have TV for 75p per month...
    Personal ISA Contributions Challenge - current £0 (as at 1 April 2014) / target £15,000 (deadline 31 Mar 2015)
  • What is the 50% code for?

It gets you 50% off all the following TV packages for 12 months, so if you get two or three they are all still discounted. Details of the exact packages are in the link lower down.

Standard Sky TV (Entertainment): £10.75 instead of £21.50
Entertainment Extra: £2.50/mth instead of £5/mth
Sky Movies: £8/mth instead of £16/mth
Sky Sports: £10.50/mth instead of £21
Sky World: £17/mth instead of £34/mth
