I think Apple has become a bit too rich for my blood!

Right, so I've currently got an iPhone 4. Great phone, love it to bits. Had it more than 2 years, still looks brand new and has been well looked after.

I've been saving for the new iPhone and have just been pricing up the total cost:
32gb iPhone: £600
Apple Care: £61
Case: £20
Adapter: £25
TOTAL: £706

I was planning on the 32gb version as it is going to replace my 32gb 1st gen iPod touch. I want the Apple care as I'm planning on keeping the phone for at least the next two years. Im definintely buying a case for a £600 phone and need the adapter so that it will work with my B&W Zeppalin.

Problem is, £700 is an awful lot of money for a phone, and I fear Apple may have just set the price too high.

In my opinion, they should have bundled the adapter free with the phone, and should be offering a 24 month warranty as standard at this price. £626 would have been a little easier to swallow!

I love my iPhone and hate the thought of jumping ship to Android but may not have a choice!

  • Well if you put the phone in your basket in the online apple store, and then proceed to buy, there is a step where you can add accessories, and it offers a "lightning to 30 pin adapter" and says something along the lines of
Your iphone comes with a lightning to 30 pin adapter. Buy this one to have a spare for the car or office.

I don't know why they're not advertising this anywhere else but I think that's £25 off anyway.

As other threads have said, the phone itself is the same price as the 4S 32Gb was when it came out. I don't really see the difference... unless the 4S had a 2 year warranty?
  • I totally agree that they should supply a free adaptor - but don't forget to factor in to your decision that an android phone won't work with your Zeppelin. Maybe keeping the iPhone 4 a bit longer and getting the new iPod Touch is a better option.

Or even better ignore Samsung & Apple, there are many other phones of the same or better specs without the higher cost.

Put it this way - you could buy two decent laptops, including more hardware and software, for that sort of money

So there's a big price for the added value rolled up in the design and brand

Personally I can't see it as worth more than £250, and don't foresee ever owning one

When you think of it like that it's a pretty crazy price, isn't it? Apple are very clever at marketing, though, aren't they?

i never had an iphone nor do i want one, i have a smart phone that suits me perfectly, streams netflix in hd like a dream with 3g (three network) ace camera 12 mp, 32 gb memory and i paid 220 after trading in my older phone. dont believe in any contract over 12 months so not had one in years. tha big figure for the 32 iphone with bits and bobs would pay my council tax
The word about the scammers is spreading like marmite here in the westcountry.

You do have a choice though, why not stick with what you have?
It is little different from someone joining the other OS, in effect you have to start again. As you have several apple devices then it is probably more cost effective to stick with what you have.
£700 is not the end of the world unless you didn't have the money in the 1st place.

Wouldnt dream of paying outright for the iPhone 5. For me it is a MUST have which is why ill just upgrade through Orange Retentions. But its not £700 worth of handset!

Why get Apple Care when they just replace it in store for free if it gets faulty?
