mine is a gorgeous metallic red (no idea what the proper name is- the the 90th birthday edition?)
thanks floyd- that looks fab to try, fingers crossed. Havent made bread or anything as fancy as foccacia before
I tried it out on a plain victoria sponge last night- its brill to use, but maybe going from memory wasnt the best idea. The cake was lovely and light and fluffy but pretty dryi wonder if i should have added some milk- that seems to ring a bell? I used 8/8/8/4 as in flour/caster suger/butter/eggs- though they might have been medium (should i have used large??
I can make pavlovasbut since my old cheapy stand mixer died and i made do with a hand held one, i cant seem to get them right anymore, so I'm looking forward to an opportunity to try one out

I also have the cherry red one, I was lucky enough to win it in a competition on the BBC GoodFood website, the year before last!
I make cakes, meringues, pastry and bread.... and tend to be a "bung it all in at once" cook, as yet haven't had any failures.
I love it, love it, love it!0 -
I make a batch of pastry mix to freeze in mine, its great and as someone said meringues turn out a dream.0

Hello lovely Old Stylers!
My lovely hubby has treated me to a Kitchenaid food mixer for my birthday (not very MSE, but we also put Wedding vouchers towards it!). As I'm just starting to enjoy cooking/baking, I wondered if anyone has any tips or recipes that work particularly well?
I've never made bread before so I'm going to give that a try, but any pointers would be much appreciated!
TIA

Definitely bread, it takes all the hard work out of making it, since I got my Kitchen Aid I never buy bread. Also great for meringues and cakes, especially Christmas cake so very timely for you
I really want some accessories for mine too.
What colour is yours?0 -
I have a Kenwood Patissier which is a cheaper version and it makes gorgeous mashed potato as well as cakes, etc. Cook the potatoes, tip into the mixer and mix on a low speed. When it's mashed up add some warmed milk and butter and gradually increase to full speed for about a minute. Makes really smooth mash (if the potatoes have been cooked for long enough;)).
I always do my cake mixes using the all-in-one method now. If dried fruit, etc, needs to be added I do it on a slower setting so it just mixes in. HTH.0 -
Along with the bread theme pizza is easy. I always use it for pastry and scones now as well as cakes ( all in one method). I also use it to whisk ice cream mixture before freezing, it comes out really smooth. Haven't got around to bread making yet but that will change soon!0

Ahh you will love 'playing' with your kitchenaid! I too make pizza base dough in mine every Fri, thats our Fri nite pizza pasta night ;-) (easy peasy recipe can post if u want it)
I make everything in it that I bake, most weeks its a nigella 'chocolate loaf cake' kids love it warm with ice cream, nice with a cuppa and taken for packed lunches, its dense so you only need a half slice. As others mentioned your kitchenaid makes fabulous dough! from bread, pizzas to biccys,I love the 'butter cut out biscuits' done in my kitchenaid.
Mine stopped working just 2 weeks after the warranty ran out! I was so upset BUT I sent it into them and for £75 (approx) I had it repaired, new parts & serviced then sent back to me, much cheaper than buying another obviously and fantastic service! It was the gearbox or something like that. Its worked perfectly since. Enjoy yours.
edit; watch it particularly if on high speed or not wide worktop,I had it too high for whatever I was making and stuff was flying everywhere (my fault totally) I went to turn it off and it was shaking fast, I knocked it somehow and it fell on its side still mixing & flicking pizza dough everywhere ;-( I have no idea how I did this !!Life happens when you are busy making other plans

I was lucky enough to win an apple red one, in a competition on BBC Good Food website, 3 years ago - and have used it loads. Mainly for bread, meringues and cakes. I love it - and it looks so pretty!!!
Im looking to get a mincer/grinder for mine so I can start making my own mince.
Enjoy!#44 £168.41/£20230 -
Thanks for the tips everyone, I'll definitely give the pizza dough a try. I had plans to make some cakes with it this weekend, but the poor husband had a fall on Friday night and had to have 5 stitches in his lip. He can't eat anything apart from soup or ready break, so would be cruel to be making cakes!
Kirsty, could I trouble you for your easy pizza dough recipe?
Thanks0
