Broken Galaxy S3 - Samsung refusing help
Hi all
So maybe you guys can advise on how best to write a snotty letter to Samsung. Mid-July I purchased one of the new Galaxy S3 through CPW reseller mobiles.co.uk on a T-Mobile £26 p/m contract for 24 months. Brill! Thrilled, love the phone.
Then yesterday it slips from my pocket and hits the ground, crazing and cracking the bottom left corner of the screen.
Now, Samsung want £160 for a repair. 'No. Way.' is my thought. This is a £500 phone sim-free, it's their flagship phone, it's meant to be the Olympic phone - and it can't handle being dropped once?
I'm absolutely fuming that they're refusing to help. I understand accidental damage isn't covered on most warranties, but I still don't understand why my partner's Galaxy S2 has been:
- thrown and skidded across carparks
- dropped down flights of stairs (more than once)
- chewed by an inquisitive moggy
- had a cup of coffee spilt over it
- fallen from endless office desks
... and, aside from the small scratches that come from normal use, isn't dented at all. I drop my Ferrari of a phone *once*, just as he's dropped his S2 and mine cracks? It just doesn't sound right that it breaks like that when it's meant to be Gorrilla Glass 2 and the future of phones.
Is there any recourse here? I doubt t-mobile will be able to help as the phone was bought through mobiles.co.uk not them, and I'm not sure mobiles.co.uk will offer a repair service given they are an online only outfit.
Aside from crossing myself, praying and taking it to a bloke on a marketstall what can I do? Samsung have been nothing but uncaring and it's frustrated me immensely!

Get real and buy a new one if you really want to throw money away on the latest toy. Oh - and get zipped pockets if you do. Just to make sure, how about dropping your partner's S2 from the top of the nearest tower block and see if it really is indestructable.0

Simply answer, No, there is no recourse.
Either pay to have the phone repaired or live with the damaged screen. If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me0 -
You smashed your phone. This is not their problem. It's all on you.
If you crashed a car would you expect the manufacturer to repair if for you FOC?0 -
I've dropped my S3 a few times. It's just luck of the draw I haven't cracked my screen but if I did I wouldnt be upset with Samsung as it would be my own fault. There are plenty of durable cases out there like otterbox's. It's upto you to protect your phone and to take care for it. Obviously accidents happen though and it's not Samsung's fault.0

You see people fall over and get up and walk away, maybe bruised. Other times, they break bones.
What's the difference? It's how they landed and on what.
Same applies to phones. Do you have insurance? House Insurance perhaps that might help?
Apart from that, you do have to face reality and that accidents happen. Devices may be describes as "resistant" but none are describes as "100% shatter-proof".
Obviously sorry to read of your device being damaged, but if anyone is prepared to get a £500 mobile (when a £10 will do the 2 major tasks) and then not take all precautions to protect it (physically and via insurance) then they can hardly blame the manufacturer.0 -
As others have said it is luck of the draw if your phone breaks when you drop it.
I have dropped my IPhone more times than I can count not a scratch. My friend dropped hers once broke the screen.
Samsung are totally right in not providing any help they don't have to.
If your going to buy expensive things make sure you have them covered for when it all goes wrong. I have learnt this the hard way (13 phones in 3.5 years).First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
If you can afford a £500 mobile, can you not afford to insure it?
Is it maybe covered under your home contents insurance? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
