  • I'm quite prepared to wager that the Tories won't be in Government after May 2015. Their unpopularity will grow in parallel to the lack of growth in this country's GDP. Their policies are probably broadly correct, but it's too fast and too much, more than the average man can bear. I've always thought of myself as a Conservative, but they won't be getting my vote next time.

Well, I'm a social conservative but an economic egalitarian - a very unfashionable combination these days! Until they adopted monetarism I was broadly in favour of conservative policies - if Heath had retained the leadership in 1975 I would probably have backed him against Callaghan - but I could never support Thatcher's brand of conservatism. The trouble is that most of the younger Tories, like Cameron and his cronies, have all been indoctrinated by Thatcherism and are willing to go even further than she did. What saddens me is that the Lib-Dems are so ineffectual in curbing the excesses of the government. I had voted Lib-Dem in the last election, but never again.
  • Hopefully it will be another 20 years before they win again :T

Make that 200 years please! If they get back in power in 20 years I'll be 65 and probably have to work until 80 before I can get my pension!!

And the jokes keep on coming.....

Do you ever look at the opinion polls? I can't even remember the last time the Tories had a lead over the Labour Party...

Here take a look for yourself

I'll grant you, this government is not quite as hated as the Thatcher Government....

Successful political parties survive and they win General Elections.

The Conservatives/Tories have been in existence since the 1680s and have held power for much of the time since Britain became a democracy in the modern sense of the word in the early-mid 1800s (if you don't mind that women couldn't vote, early C20th if you do).

An opinion poll is a snapshot.

PS The 'hated' Thatcher Government won 3 General Elections, 2 of which were by landslides.

Yes, and look what has happened to the economy while they were away!

TBH I'm the exact opposite but I find your views very interesting and I have 2 questions:

    1. Why don't you think the Labour Party represent your beliefs better?
    2. Do you see a likelihood that your preferred sort of Conservatism will return to prominence within the Conservative Party?

Blair was a Tory in disguise - and the most cynical politician I have ever seen. But even he was better than this government. The trouble is that ideological hatred is only generated by ideological extremes - and the current government are an extreme mix of libertarian-capitalist fanatics. We need a centrist government because this is one that can properly unite the nation. The world tried extremes in the 20th century and it didn't work.

Blair is a war criminal, hardly comparable to the current government.

  • Whoever you vote for the government always gets in. Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, they are all the same faceless neo-liberal puppets. The system is now too broken to support a middle class so even the lower middle classes get it, not just the workers.

This country needs change, radical change.
