EBay wedding dresses?

  • Hiya, I come at this from two angles. First I have been sustainability manager for a large company in the UK. I reviewed social audits overseas for manufacturers and I can tell you that often, if something is cheap to us, then it has cost someone, somewhere else dearly. Secondly, if you go to a bridal wear shop and order a dress from a well known brand (not a UK high end designer) and it take several months to come, then it is most likely coming from China or another developing country too. However, in this case, there are more quality controls in the design process, so the product will be better generally - and you are paying for all the links in the chain. Finally, buying a worn once or even unworn dress from a dress agency or ebay can be as much of a bargain, if not more, becuase you can get beautiful quality gown and know that it has some history, but you'll be able to see exactly what you are getting before you hand over your money. Hope that helps....:)

I am not getting my wedding dress off of ebay. I was too nervous but I am getting from a lady who has a website and also a facebook page. She offers a range of dresses and also allows you to completely design yours. She is completely up front and explained that she and her designer get them made in China (in a reputable place) and they are then shipped for her to inspect and you to try on. Her dresses are incredibly resonable. I am getting my wedding dress and BM dress from her. I must stress however that I have not got my dresses yet but people I know have and they have been very pleased. She is in contact with her brides via facebook any time I need her and has been so accommodating with all my changes that I made to my dress! If you seach fro "My big fat gorgeous wedding" on facebook you will find her.

if you look at the dresses they sell ther are all from ebay!! and charging over the price for them you should have had a look on ebay yourself would have saved £££'s

I am fully aware they are from China, the business owner never hides that fact actually she is the opposite as she doesn't want anyone to be misinformed. I paid a tiny bit extra to her to ensure the dress is top quality and gets delivered on time. To me that is a price worth paying. Also I am involved with the design process and get to check my dress at each stage of it's completion, something that certainly doesn't happen with EBay sites!

Also if you step back and look at anything from China sold in the UK, someone adds a value in top then sells it. That is the way things work. I don't see why you would come on here and say they are ripping people off because all of the brides I have spoken to are happy.

I ordered my wedding dress from eBay, its custom made, from China, but routed through a London address to cut out customs charges.

It cost me £105 altogether (including an extra £15 for plus size), it took 6 weeks to come and it fits like a glove. Its exactly what I wanted/expected/was sold and i would wear it every day if I could.

There is alot of hand stitched detail (sequins, sparklies etc) along with embroidery. A few of these dropped off in transit, however, not noticable and my mum will be able to stich the 3 or 4 back on. The same dress was priced at £1050 at a local bridal store...No complaints here!

  • I would not order from My Big Fat Gorgeous Wedding if you paid me, I had a lucky escape, unfortunately a few others didnt!!!!!!
  • I've found my dream dress on ebay, i saw a similar one in a local shop on sale for £500. The one on ebay is £85. I asked the seller for a stock photo and they sent me several photos of customer's wearing the same dress in different colours, and they were obviously english people, which is very reassuring. All their feedback for their other dresses is really good.
I cannot wait to order mine.
My sister had her prom dress ordered from china, my mom said the quality isn't 100% like it would be for £1000, but for the price, it's very good, and you'd have to be very close to see any of the bad bits, which she described as loose threads and such.
All in all, i reckon it's worth it, and i'll be buying mine once i've lost some more weight.
