Thanks NP and Calfuray, didn't sleep a wink last night and was so upset in the morning as he always comes and drinks my water when I clean my teeth - seems silly but he barges in through the door, jumps up, looks at me and then drinks it and all I could think was he could be dead now and I don't know, by the time I left for work I had convinced myself. Dave didn't ring by 10 and I thought, "he's busy telling the kids" so I rang him and they hadn't rung yet, so I said ring them and he said "but they said between 9-11" "just bl**dy ring them" but then he still had to wait as the "vets doing their rounds"
I couldn't care less how much we pay to keep Crunchy alive but the bill was over £370 for less than 12 hours stay and they charged over £125 just to look at him. They charged £70 to canulate him (the actual price of the drip is separate), now I've been taking bloods and canulating patients all day, it takes about 5 flaming minutes tops - £70!! Talk about absolutely skanking you when all you care about is your pet and are feeling most vulnerable.
They also asked last night about CPR (resus) for which I clearly said NO and I thought really horrible thoughts about the emergency service. I have worked in the NHS all my working life, I have done cpr on so many I can't remotely count - hundreds and I have "saved" less than 10 and of those most die with 24 hours, I definitely do not think that offering to CPR my cat is anything but a scam.
I was really clear after that with Dave, get my cat back unless they are actively doing something, as I am 100% positive I can watch over him better than them. I wanted to demand him back last night but if they could do anything it was worth the money.
All the time your questioning whether your doing the right thing yet I work in healthcare and I appreciate I am not a vet but CPR a cat!! Its not personal, I would put a DNR (do not resuscitate) order on Dave (and myself... not the kids tho as cardiac arrest is more likely to be genuinely reversible in children)
Gosh I'm really sorry, proper rant but feel so much better for it.
Dave just checked, curled up but head popped up when he went in.

Glad its not as bad as could have been. I will keep my thoughts on vets/medical bills to myself or there'll be two rants on one page!! ;-) Take care.0

Thanks Southern Dave, feel really tight about Vets rant but talk about abuse of the "vulnerable" as I think I do everything as a pet owner, neutering, vaccinations, flea, worm, and just absolutely love them but I feel ROBBED, take my money that's fine but at least try and earn it.
I am so desperate he survives this.. Part of me thinks, no more after this, its just too painful but then they add so much.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!

No need to justify it, you are right. Most of the fees are merely arbitrary figures plucked out of thin air it seems. I have never seen an ethical vets bill. I'd much rather pay a fixed hourly rate for their expertise, even if this was £100+ per hour and the medicines at retail prices, rather than the massively inflated medicines profiteering and nonsensical 'fees'. It is taking advantage of people when they are vulnerable and emotional.
Anyway, wishing the best for you all.0 -
southerndave couldn't have put this better, and I am certain that Crunchy being observed at home in familiar surroundings and by a family who love, him will aid his recovery far more that being in a cage with a stranger making checks every so often.
Cats really do have nine lives Helen (he'll also no doubt make the most of the extra attention and special luxury treats;))
I hope you start to see signs of improvement today XFebruary13 - £74990 (or thereabouts)

Thanks SD and NP
Checked on him through the night and this morning he was sat at the bottom of the stairs looking up. Fetched him and he had his usual cuddle between us. He has been very tired and clearly feeling sorry for himself but has eaten, toileted and had his tablets. He has several cuts, fur missing but nothing that looks deep, back paws / nails scuffed and has scabs all over his nose and on his face. He appears to have a sore abdomen and initially struggled to jump up on things but this has improved during the day. He is currently asleep next to me on the settee and has been nearby all day so clearly needing reassurance. Bless him, that's one of his lives definitely used up, I can't believe he's still with us!!Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!

Well today have been off, kids all have a friend to play. Booked my Asda last night to save distractions and settled in for a day of assignment writing. I am very pleased with my efforts, have a grand total of 2,500 words (some of them even make sense and had done 2 large sections before today) still 1,500 to go but feel its back is definitely broken. 4 weeks left to submission.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... Crunchy finished his meds today, still seems subdued but is in all other respects on the mend. Most of his scabby nose has gone (just looks a bit crusty inside).
House a bit of a tip following doing nothing but bare minimum last few days so have lots of ironing to do (been on a long day and can't face it as soo tired) and general disarray. Getting up every work day at 5.30 is definitely taking its toll, especially when seem to be leaving work at 7.30pm in order to have an extra day off whilst the kids are off, was planning on making it a permanent thing when kids at school so could be home about the same time as the kids but not sure as worn out.
Money moves itself tomoz as all set up, I love seeing the accounts change.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!
