  • What is a pt incident?
  • sorry.. pt is patient. Had an investigation to do on something which didn't feel right, fortunately on closer inspection I can 100% fully prove didn't happen.

Tea cooking, as per every sunday, loads extra so sunday dinner, becomes a cooked dinner for lunch tomorrow and a shep pie type meal for Monday. Managed to pick up large sack of potatoes on way home from dropping dd1 off which is so much cheaper than supermarket.

Wt loss tally going up nicely SHS, well done. xx

If I know I'm doing something or want a drink etc, I will actually exercise just to earn those calories. So I know I need 300 for 1/2 bottle of wine.. I suppose the answer is that well known analogy that if you dropped your mobile phone on the floor, would you pick it up and carry on, or think well that's that then and stamp on it till it was smashed into pieces? A bad day isn't the end of the world, just have to move on. I cheat... ALL the time but my cheats are tricks, so when I want something really sweet, a meringue is surprising low in calories and is a major sugar hit. I like crisps, so I buy the snackrite fries from aldi, I can have 3 packets (and frequently do) for the same amount of calories as the ones I used to have. I love ice cream but Ive swapped it for frozen yoghurt which I also love. I no longer have a biscuit for lunch, I have frozen berries with low calorie yoghurt. I now actively avoid a lot of processed food, which is actually cheaper but I also always cook extra and take leftovers to work in order to avoid taking bread. I no longer have anything but smart price porridge which is just oats whereas before I didn't realise the hefty dose of sugar I was getting, assuming I was being good. I create fake away take aways, so Chinese using slimming world recipes. The list is endless and is just finding a way of getting what I crave without the calories. I don't miss anything, I do however miss mindless eating which just isn't an option. When you change those things and create cheats, you actually have leftover calories to use on what you want. I think the first month is the hardest because you can't necessarily see the difference for a few weeks, then suddenly your trousers aren't as tight, and soon after (about 2 months in)close people start noticing, then month 3 everyone starts to notice, those comments are a huge boost as well as getting to wear clothes that are no longer too tight. It snowballs from there, as your taste changes, it starts to become habit not a "diet". People sometimes said, "still on the diet?" nope.. this is for life. I still feel very frightened I will fall back off the wagon, so I still count every calorie, still weigh every week, and don't allow myself to not exercise. I do feel how I feel about my body compared to back then makes it all worth it. You know what they say, "this time last year, you'll wish you started today". Keep going SHS xx

Great motivating post, I needed to read this.

Ditto. Ever since I got an office job where I sit down minimum 8 hours a day my weight has been creeping up and now I'm nearly 2 stone heavier than I'd like to be. Myfitnesspal helped me lose 1,5 stone last year but I've put it all back on this year so I really need to look at it as a lifestyle choice instead of a diet, like Helen says. I've got my wedding as a motivator this time at least!

Great post, Helen - really great way of looking at things - I'm another one who gives up too easily when stressed/ tired/ grumpy - I 'reward' myself with sweet things and then think I've ruined it all anyway, so might as well go the whole hog. Definite food for thought :)

Yes, no stomping on it! Pick it up and pop it back in your pocket.

Glad I could help Guys, I feel very passionate about it. I think the key is to not feel hard done by, change the treats, change how you feel about it. Its not easy but does quickly become habit.

Also I exercise for extra treats but I won't do any exercise I don't enjoy. You have to find something you love. If you get bored, do something else, life's too short and it will become a chore. I go through phases as I get bored quickly. Did loads of different classes but currently do none preferring gym, weights and runs. But that could change overnight.
Again make it habit, it has to fit into your life. So I go to the gym when the girls are swimming or at music, but prefer an early run at the weekend when they are sleeping. Routine is the key. I exercise everyday but mon & thu but will do as an extra if off work.

For me, the biggest danger is being over hungry. I will then put myself at risk of eating rubbish, so I always take food to work.

Nearly had fish, chips and curry from chippy Saturday, but we needed to wait an hour as DD1 at work. So I made instead, actifry chips, mayflower chicken curry and a fish (frozen) was a fraction of the calories and it was absolutely gorgeous.. (if I say so myself!) and also very MSE. Froze the left over curry for another time.
