Tonight been to dd 1 county band performance, which is always great although glad to be home. Also signals no 1 hour + round trips to drop off at rehearsals for a few week...

We have been rehearsing with our county band today. I hope your dd enjoys it, I loved them and love to hear that they are still continued across the country. So many places have had heavy cuts to music services and the arts so it gives me faith that people still have the chances I had growing up.

They have massively pulled out resources. Which is really sad. Last few years have had to pay for her to still be able to attend and the knock on affect has been the volume of children who no longer attend. The performance venues have also taken a massive hit, in previous years was concert halls and theatres, now it's school halls and draughty churches. Truly saddening as I can see each year it losing more students.

I would love to have enough money to pay for anyone who wanted lessons (set up a grant or charity or something) as music is so important to me. We have had some children who can't attend our course this year as the parents needed to spend the money on something else. I think it will only be noticeable that there are less people taking up music due to financial reasons when it is too late.
At the opposite end of the scale, we don't perform as much as a professional outfit as there is less money for people to hire us so unfortunately it is happening all over. We play in less churches and more in concert halls and theatres but because it is normally charities that fund our concerts they can't afford the outlays so much as they don't always make the money back.
I wish people/government would realise the music, the arts and sport give young people so many life skills, maybe they wouldn't keep cutting funding so much!

I agree aj, it's heart breaking. I feel very lucky that we can afford to let our girls have lessons. At times, financially it's been a struggle but well worth it. Your right about all the extra skills they get, such as dedication, commitment as well as inner confidence.
