  • Re easy savouries - toast nice granary bread, heat up tin of plum tomatoes, butter toast, spread something like Daddie's sauce on top, add tomatoes.
Also, take fresh plum tomatoes, cook quickly in olive oil, add fresh basil and serve on top of fresh buttered toast.

Tuna pasta is a big favourite in our house: cook pasta (shells are best). 2-3 mins from the end add some frozen sweetcorn. Drain, mix in a tin of tuna.

Stir through one of the following: cheese sauce, cream, sour cream, mayo, pesto.

Add lots of freshly ground pepper and eat. Yum :)

  • Big value and a firm favourite; make savoury mince with chopped onion, BISTO granules; add large tin baked beans and serve with creamy mash. Yum!

I used to live on that when I was a student.

Ham, egg and chips - ham and egg must be on plastic white bread with loads of utterly butterly - all-time favourite.

This sounds gruesome but I've had it for lunch yesterday and today. I wouldn't have it if there was anyone else around though, as it does look extremely cheapskate! :o

3x Sainsburys Basics fish fingers, grilled. Mix into reheated leftover mash (it would work with instant mash, but not as nice) and pour on top some curry sauce made with Bisto granules (I stir this in too). Eat with a spoon!

    7.5p for fishfingers
    15p for mash
    2p for gravy

= tasty and filling lunch for 25p.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I used to love tinned meatballs in onion gravy, loads of buttery mas and tinned garden peas.
Makes you wonder how we've survived since being students.
Actually, I could eat it now!!

I don't know whether it's cheap but it looks like I spent a lot of time and effort on it and it tastes wonderful. The best part is that it really is a decent meal in under 15 minutes.

    You need: depending on number)

couple of red chillis, chopped and deseeded
    Some spring oninons chopped
    Chicken breast, chopped or sliced
2 desert spoons of red pesto
    Pot of single cream
    Dried or fresh pasta

While the pasta is cooking cook the onion and chillis for a couple of minutes then add chicken. Once chicken is cooked on the outside add the pesto and then the cream. If you want more sauce you can either add more cream or skimmed milk. Toss pasta in sauce when cooked and serve. It also tastes lovely without the chicken.

That sounds really nice, going to try it this weekend.
