But it prevents me finding work, the thing they are trying to do is the opposite results.

You have been on Jobseekers for two years now .....so if you have been using email/facebook trying to get a job and have not succeeded - maybe you ought to try actually working .... even if it is a grotty environment, the plush penthouse office is not actually out there waiting for you - you do have to work to get there!

I think the government should spend money on re-training or training people for jobs. Not expect them to apply for jobs they have no hope of getting! I am in a similar position I'm on ESA but now I've had a hip replacement I'm looking for work I was a carer and before that worked in retail, I don't want these kinds of jobs because I don't want to wear my new hip out, by being in a standing job. There is no chance of me re-training for another job. There are also certain jobs I wouldn't do cleaning, catering work, office work. If I went back to retail I wouldn't work late nights or Sundays but that would deem me not very flexible. So I think re-training is the key.

What do you want to retrain as ? The work programme seems to provide very little in the way retraining. They don't seem to have much funding for this.

Not at all. I was referring to the fact that many employers (including the OPs future company) may well restrict use of sites he has become accustomed to using.

that back tracking was nearly a moonwalk ;)

Only a very tiny percentage of people are on JSA for 2 plus years.

In the US there are some states where unemployment benefit is sometimes limited to 2 years across a person's whole lifetime (otherwise they have to enrol on a workfare scheme and do community placements on a full time basis to qualify for benefits).

There the philosophy is 'all jobs are good jobs' - they don't care about the personal preferences of the applicant. In Germany, I understand that some job seekers are simply sent to employers to work - they don't apply, the labour exchange merely tells them where and when to turn up for work.

Academic studies have shown that training the unskilled rarely results in any great increase in their wages so no great return on investment.

Why should the govt train them - why can't the individual take responsibility for their own education and skills?

I see you share something in common with your namesake.

Just because an employer will, does not mean it should be at a place where he is not working but supposed to be actively seeking work. Many jobs require email applications now.

So you are postin irrelevant comments, very unhelpful.

I've no idea what I'd like to re-train as luckily im not being forced into work at the moment. I live 5 miles from the city centre so whatever I do will have to be central. The government want you to get a job so they should be willing to train you not wasting millions on a work programme.

your missing the point again, it is not a work place he is going to but a room full of PCs to use to look for work, hence the need for his email account.

Then get another one with a different provider than Hotmail.

    Sheesh......it's really not rocket science.

    .

How can that be correct? if so whats the point of all training and FE and HE because surley everybody was unskilled at one point before they did their courses etc?.
I know lots of people that have done courses and then gone on to get jobs from them. If what you say is correct then all training establishments would have shut a long time ago because there would be no point in it!

There can be a difference between people who have arranged their training and paid for it themselves, compared with someone who's been sent on a course by JCP.

    Can you follow I thread?

My reply was in answer to a post saying hotmail, twitter etc are banned in a lot of work places, I was pointing out it was not a work place the OP was in, I was not arguing that hotmail should or shouldn't be allowed.

    Keep up now please.
