.. If anything it prevents me even ringing up employers and sending out e-mails. (Because hotmail is even blocked).

People in employment looking for new positions spend the evenings/weekends/lunchtimes and their holidays looking for new work....!!

Being occupied for 35 hours a week isn't a bar to securing a new job, education or training course....

I really understand your frustration as I spent 6 months being unemployed more than 15 years ago and still keenly recall how demoralising it was, how it sapped my confidence and energy, how rejected I felt.

But at the end of the day, only you can stop yourself being unemployed, though its really hard to be proactive when your self-esteem has taken a pounding.

Suck it up, put it down to a learning experience, put your energy into something like an apprenticeship, work experience of your own desire, Princes Trust or similar youth charity schemes, getting temporary Xmas work and so forth rather than spending all your time and energy trying to fight something that you can't win.

Dust down your interview suit and shoes, print off masses of CVs, pound the pavement seeking out managers and selling yourself to them, cold call companies you'd like to work for and so forth.

Doesn't entirely stop you though, spend a few hours a night looking for jobs to apply for and complete the application over 3/4 evenings or fire off a cv and cover letter if the ad asks for 1.

I managed to look, apply and attend interviews whilst in a 9 - 5 30 job, it just meant any interviews I had I had to arrange holiday for it, even managed to sneak in a phone call in work time as I was desperate.

Seriously - listen to yourself. You've presumably had up to a year on the dole so far and haven't found a job yet so how is it going to harm you?

How do full time students secure employment while still studying? How do full time workers get better jobs with different employers? How do full time workers with multiple children to look after find their next position? How do full time workers with multiple children and long commutes find their next job?

    They manage their time!

If you don't have access to a PC at home, then you'll find your local library will be open in the evenings and perhaps Saturdays and will also have copies of the local papers.

I'm not pretending the WP will catapult you into a job but if you want to escape the clutches of this kind of tedious compulsory commitment, you have to find a job yourself - the Job Centre, as you well know, doesn't offer a personalised hand-holding job finding service tailored just for you. You are just a number, they don't care, you are just a nuisance to them.

You have to take care of yourself - only you can find yourself a job, the Job Centre offer a bare bones advertisement service for generally low paid and uninteresting jobs.

The time you spent moaning about the crappy WP service on here you could have spent on the Princes Trust website or other youth charities getting a course or training that you'd actually care about and enjoy.

OP what is preventing you from finding work? What sort of job are you looking for and how many applications are you putting in on a daily basis? I know there aren't that many jobs out there, but if you aren't successful on the things you want to do, maybe time to lower your sights?

Unfortunately a college qualification isn't a ticket to a job these days...

I am looking at the unskilled jobs and even they want experience, a car, an NVQ level 2 in god knows what all for the grand total of £6.08! I need to find 6 jobs a week that need no qualifications, no car, no experience, if the OP is in the same boat, it's not easy doing that week after week, I have been on JSA for one week and am already starting applying for jobs I stand no chance of getting, just so the jobcentre can tick their little box.

I understand people like me can not just be left alone to sign on for ever more but applying daft rules that are there just because it gives the MPs something to feed the public is not helping get people of the dole, to me it's only making these people less motivated and give up.

There is very little help, most of it is punishment, that is costing the tax payer millions.

    .

    I agree.

I accompanied a friend to the local job centre and the 'jobs' were either mickey mouse cold calling sales commission (self employment) positions or low paid jobs that required experience, own transport, qualifications and so on, even if unskilled (security, retail, care work, etc).

It must be very demoralising. At a time when the OP is sapped of hope, drive and energy by their experience of unemployment, probably their only way out of the clutches of the DWP is to be the master of their own destiny, find their own place in the world, perhaps carve it out through self employment (and this is hard enough to do when motivated).

    Sorry Nannygoat.

Your lame sense of humour is rude and demeaning. Do you find it funny to make fun of peoples problems?

I would say I agree too but that would smack of crawling as you have just said it,so instead I will say spot on! ;)

I am going to/have been looking for any job just to get off benefits, I will take any job paying £70 a week wich is about 12-15 hours depending what deductions they make, this will take the pressure off me as I really am feeling stressed with worry on fulfilling the 6 jobs applications I need to make in a week, which I would fail on, on any given week, which risks a stopping of benefits, this will make getting a job that I am more likely to want to do and enjoy.
