Thanks to reading the article on cheaper travel insurance I have just got annual cover for myself and husband for £69 with CoverMyTravels ( I have a pre-existing condition- asthma). I paid £ 137 last year with Direct Line. Cheers!:T

I have just got cover for a week for myself and my son for £25. This may seem a lot to some people but my condition is epilepsy and there was no problem to insure me. With other insurers I have had great difficulty. So thanks moxxy-girl, for drawing my attention to this firm.
  • i am once again preaching about how helpful this website is. I too have just come off the website for covermytravels and am now off on holiday after discovering they cover you for pre-existing medical conditions. Without this site and an article in the guardian discussing how insurance prices are rising for the elderly and recommending this company I would not of had the cheap price on insurance, and probably ended up cancelling the holiday after all the knock backs we have received due to our pre-existing medical conditions.

I cannot wait to now go away and enjoy myself without having to worry (apart from the flight of course!)

    Thanks again all.

  • Does anyone know where to get the cheapest single trip group insurance. My 63 yr old mother in law is going with us this year and this may up the premium a bit.

    thanks

i am currently having trouble getting travel ins for my family, the problem being that my wife had breast cancer over five years ago, and it seems no insurance company wants our business because of this.

Different illnesses, similar length of time since treated and the same run around by insurance companies. Grrr.

I wanted to renew our (wife and I) joint European Annual Policy but the company who was happy to insure us for the last 12 years (ie when we were ill) has changed underwriters and 12 claim free years counts for nothing.

Most others insurers also said no, go away.

Covermytravels initially said yes but it will cost £154 please but then wanted to exclude something last treated 7 years ago and long forgotten by our medical team but would still charge £154.

Medicare's nice nurse said "not a problem" but their price was exorbitant to start with and they demanded the other arm and a leg (or an extra £195) to cover the illness that covermytravels wouldn't cover. As if Medicare are not making enough money from their "you are 97th in the queue, please wait".

I began to wonder if I was already dead but hadn't been told.

    But now the good news.

I noticed on a different thread a link to Ace Travel http://www.aceholidayinsurance.com/. They have only 7 exclusions and these are plainly stated on the website as is their free phone number. I rang it on the off chance and was put through to their medical screening where I expected to hear the bells tolling 'bring out your dead' when I began listing our medical conditions. But no.

I was given a medical screening number, told the file had been updated, all the medical conditions insured and the price for an annual policy for two people is..... wait for it.... £63. :rotfl:

Someone will now spoil my day by saying I could have got it cheaper elsewhere.

Does anyone know whether you can extend your insurance if you have already started your travel? Son is travelling in Central America, he has got an annual world wide policy and his one single trip is for maximum 60 days. He wants to stay a bit longer. I phoned the insurance company and was told, he will not find any company willing to extend his insurance whilst he is not in UK. I asked whether he can take it in the country he is travelling and was told no.I remember when he was insured with STA, I did manage to extend his insurance befroe he expires. Can anybody help with this please? Thanks

This probably is a little late for this particular post, but may help for future... some companies can extend the cover they already have whilst abroad as long as they're not submitting a claim and within the first 60 days.

In general, if you travel out without insurance (or someone in your party has forgotton to get insurance) even if you have not made a claim, the rule of thumb in insurance ind is that NO company will sell a pollicy after you have left the UK. If you're still in the airport on even on the plane (as long as the plane is still in UK terrority on the ground) then they would be able to.

i am currently having trouble getting travel ins for my family, the problem being that my wife had breast cancer over five years ago, and it seems no insurance company wants our business because of this. the only thing we can do is pay £375!!!!!!!!! with all clear ins or we can exclude "cancer related conditions" however no one can tell me what they would class as "cancer related conditions." any advice would be fantastic. i'm sure there are people out there in the same situation. p.s we are travelling to america so do not really want to take any risks.

In general, anyone that you are speaking to in a call centre regarding insurance are NOT medically qualified to answer that question - it could be anything - it's a bit like saying "chest pain related" well, that could be anything from indigestion, gastro-oesophagel reflux to a CVA, TIA, Angina, Myocardial Infarction and so on.

If you are not sure what a cancer related condition is, then you should consult your Dr who will be able to clarify this for you.

going to Turkey next year for 2 weeks and i've got a bad back {having a MRI scan next month} and it hasnt stopped me working.. doctor thinks it's just a bit of wear and tear so I dont know if I should bother telling the insurance company.{have'nt bought it yet, leave it till 3 months before I go when I know scan is o.k and had ita while ago} . Is Turkey under European insurance? I would prefer to know i'd be covered if anything happened to me but what crazy price could they come up with. i'm on a tight budget saving for this holiday. could'nt be 150+ could it? any advice would be gratefully recieved.

even if it's just wear and tear.... if your Dr has diagnoised you with a medical condition, the onus is on you to inform your insurance company. If you are aware of this at time of booking the trip and you have not disclosed this information, should you put a claim for cancellation, you WILL be declined on basis that you have NOT informed them of your pre existing medical condition that existed at time of booking.

Generally speaking, Turkey is classed as European. It varies from Underwriter to Underwriter, but countries for example, Egypt, Morocco, would be classed as European..... but obv check with your relevant ins. co. for their t+cs .
