The Saorsat signal is tightly focused on the south, In say Portrush for example your gonna need a 1m dish, Its also focused on a different sat 9'E and uses a different LNB frequency.

pc10 - Definitely is a big word! Just as with Freeview vs analogue, Saorview vs analogue will need to have a good signal. Putting up with a bit of snow or not fantastic picture on analogue might be fine, but when you go digital, and get blocky pictures and choppy sound, it's unwatchable in my opinion.
A Freeview HD box will get the signal just as well as a Saorview box though, and if you've got a good analogue signal you SHOULD be fine. Let us know!

    Freeview/Soarview = aerial
    Freesat/Soarsat = satellite dish

No, on analogue you were receiving something you weren't meant to receive, the signal from the southern transmitters. That signal will very soon be digital only, and if you can still get it good enough up here, you'll not get blocked. Digital signal isn't as easy to watch with poor signal (pic/sound dropouts instead of a bit of snow or shadowing) so fewer people will get it.
The NEW part of all this is that RTE1, 2 and TG4 will be broadcast from the NI masts. This is not currently happening. THIS signal will have certain stuff blocked, because RTE will buy the rights to broadcast in the south, and someone else (Sky for example) will have the rights to broadcast to the UK. RTE are required to not broadcast it here.
