Ah right, well yes, if you're getting RTE analogue through just one aerial, then you're very lucky in that you're able to receive southern and northern TV through the one aerial.
Check what BT Vision says you're meant to get. All I can advise is that you'll lose those southern, and the northern, channels on October 24th.

Will it be possible to watch TV3 in NI after the switch over?

If so how? I have sky at present.

    Thanks

TV3 not available on sky AFAIK due mainly to it being an ITV (UTV) repeat channel, real shame actually as it is handy for CL football sometimes. If you live close to the border you can of course get TV3 and indeed 3e on saorview with an aerial and an MPEG 4 compatible TV or freeview HD box.
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

After the switchover (24th October) you'll be able to receive RTE 1, 2 and TG4 through Freeview HD from the NI transmitters. That leaves out TV3, so your only option is as above, receiving it from a southern transmitter through either a FreeviewHD or Saorview box.

    @al,
not wishing to add to the confusion but could you tell us the RTE, TV3 etc options on Saorsat at 9 East is it? Is that Mpeg2 or 4?

    Thanks for replies.

So in order to get TV3, is it the case that I could buy a Saorview box - but it might not work?

Would I be better getting a freeview HD box and that would definitely allow me to get TV3?

I have just discovered that I can listen to RTE and TV3 on freeview at the moment - says on screen - HD not supported.

Not sure if this has any bearing on after switchover or not!

I have been able to do this on my older Toshiba TV for a while, it is only MPEG 2 freeview tuner, added an external freeview HD receiver and hey presto pictures to match sound :-)

Any MPEG 4 TV or receiver will pick up Saorview as long as you are in range of a southern transmitter :T

RTE channels on Freeview HD from NI will be blocked for certain shows, mainly prem highlight shows and CL footy on weeknights :( Saorview can't be blocked if you are within range and of course you get TV3 and 3e as well :T

tommie - sorry I've no idea about Saorsat, but esson has a part answer anyway. Tt seems you would need to point your dish in a different direction from Sky or Freesat. Having said that, since it's coming from space, if it'll work in the south, it'll work in the north.

Esson1 - The same rules apply as Freeview I guess, if you can get a good analogue signal, you should get a good digital one. In Belfast, you'd need an aerial pointing south, and I think they're vertically aligned rather than horizontally like ours. You might get lucky when it goes digital. I can't imagine you receiving Saorview in Belfast without a good (separate) aerial pointing the right way though.
pc10 - TV3 is only being transmitted from southern transmitters, so your northern aerial is no use, you'll need another one, PLUS a Saorview (or FreeviewHD) box. I hadn't realised RTE had started transmitting on FreeviewHD.

Regarding the above - I do have an RTE aerial at the moment and can get TV3 fine. So will a Freeview HD box (rather than Saorview) definitely be ok for me to receive TV3 after the switchover?
