We were not in that street on the day, but we were there on the date. No car was hit or scratched as far as I am aware.
Should it not be a scam (so many out there these days and it was a dodgy street!) I don't want to be dragged into a staged allegation with God knows who is a witness with 4 people claiming whiplash or anything similar, if any, and potentially I end up 50/50 with insurance liability for something I have not done.
I am a person who waits on a car park for a driver if I hit or scratched their car or leave a note if I can not wait. I am also a person who let people off if they scratched my car. So let's not get judgemental here please. If you do hit a run, it does not mean that everybody else does the same!
There is nothing more to the story. An out of blue letter suggesting we have done something that we think we have not done. We were not on that street on the day they mention, but we were there on the date. Since it's a dodgy area, I feel this might be a scam. In order to avoid weeks and possibly months of unnecessary stress to prove we have not been involved in a collision, I was asking the question above.
Thank you for those who tried to help. Those who think we have done a hit and run, please stop thinking others are like you.
Many thanks
You obviously don't know the road traffic act.
You don't have to hit anything to be involved in a collision.0 -
Thank you for your reply, Sgt Pepper. So what is a collision? I thought you need two objects to achieve a collision.
If I knew the road traffic act, I would not have asked the question (assuming it has the answer)Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Also, I was the driver on the day, but my Mrs was they driver on the date, if that helps.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0

It strikes me as strange that you don't recall hitting something. Now I know, for a fact, that I have not hit another vehicle or person or property etc etc for the past 10-years or so. Why say you don't recall hitting something? Surely you should be able to say "No driver of that car hit anything"...Shouldn't be an air of uncertainty, surely? Hitting something is usually rather a frightening event or at least a worrying one in some form or another...0

Thank you for your reply.
I have not hit anything on the day. My Mrs can not remember hitting anything or being in a situation where she might have hit something on the date.
Hope that helps. Any more help with the question would be appreciated. Or should I go over to pepipoo?
Many thanksBe nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Just out of interest OP, have you checked your car for any obvious signs of damage/collision? Not sure when the date was but if it was recent then I am sure you would be able to see a mark of some kind if you hit something/someone.
I think your best bet is to contact the police to establish exactly a) when it was and b) what supposedly happened. It would look very suspect indeed if you haven't had an accident and are trying to avoid the situation. Far better to clear things up (or establish for certain of the claim being made against you) than try and wheedle out on a technicality."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

you or mrs, may have actually caused a collision, that is how you can be involved in a collision but not actually hit anything.
going over to peppipoo would result in the same questions and difficult reply's your experiencing here as like here over there they are not out to inform of you can get away with it technicality but rather guide you through the response to the police process. now if someone did get the make and description of your vehicle but had the number plate wrong then then it maybe a possability that your innocent but the police have to follow procedure.0 -
Hi Both and thank you for your reply.
Yes, I have checked the car. Apart from the already ones I know of, no new marks I can see. The lastest mark is from my neighnour who scratched it while reversing. I let him off. Otherwise, no new marks.
Going to Pepipoo is to get an answer to the question. I am happy to answer any more questions if it aids to clarify my query.
Many thanksBe nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
So were you at the location mentioned on the time and date they give in the letter?
If it turns out you did hit something. Your looking at 6 - 8 points for failing to stop.
Similar thing many years ago where i was the victim.Someone hit my car and the builders saw him drive off and took his number.
He got fined and points and a couple weeks later i contacted his insurance whose details were provided by the police and they knew nothing either.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I dont get this.
I have had my car hit by 4 people and the Police dont do anything.
How do these people get letters to thier homes.
I would like to know what makes them chase some people and not others.
e.g. I say this because my parked car was hit, his reg was captured, neighbours saw it, and still the police did nothing.0
