Pfff .... .... been browsing online for running bits as my OH enjoys his running and thought I would get a few running tops (sale items :money:) ordered for :xmastree:
anyhow OH has turned round as spotted what I had on my computer and commented that he wants to be able to pick his presents. except he won't, he never gives me any ideas So I'm in a bad mood now and off to willow fabrics instead :rotfl:0 -
Hi there. Here are my suggestions to your questions
[QUOTE=
I'm still thinking of stitching the complete set of dmc threads (and anchor too!) obviously a long term project since I don't have all the threads (certainly for anchor) but I have the following questions....
1. Square of colour with thread number below / to the right / left?
I would go for the thread number stitched onto the right bottom corner of the square
2. how big should the square of colour be ? I think 20x20 squares is too much.... I don't want to get bored and would like to be able to get all the colours on one piece of aida. 10x10squares possibly too much also? welcome suggestions?
I agree with Louise and think 6x6 would be fine
3. Grid out boxes first and then stitch the colours inside or outline the colour swatches afterwards - can never remember if trying to stitch inside (the backstitch) will mean the backstitch will get distorted (hope this makes sense!)
Def stitch colours first and then backstitch otherwise the black sometimes get hidden under the colour (if you get what l mean!)
4. gap between the colours or stitch each colour alongside each other (with the outline/backstitch)
I would stitch alongside each other
would welcome thoughts/suggestions.
oh and who was it that stitched the Happy Happy House design - does it really take the 35 hours the mag indicates?[/QUOTE]
Hope this helps. I look forward to seeing your progress with it :j0 -
I'm going to use my fabric pen and draw a rough idea of what I'm thinking
PS I'm guessing 14 count white aida and how much material?? how many colour squares would you stitch across/down since there are a mere 465 threads to fit??!!
I haven't got that far yet :rotfl:
Threw this together, tested with 6x6 and 4x4. Ok.
6x6 squares:
10 Columns, 47 in each column (42 in the last one) would measure 170 x 329 stitches.
Finished piece would measure 23.5x12.1 inches on 14ct aida, looking at fabric at least 30x18 inches
4x4 squares:
Same layout, 150x235 squares.
Would measure 10.7 x 16.7 inches (aida approx. 17x23 inches)Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Just catching up with a couple of days' worth of posts. This is a fascinating topic though I'm not sure I could justify the time and the cost to produce something that I wouldn't know what it was for
I don't like the piece that is just squares of colour as it emphasises the random nature of DMC numbering (though I suppose it has developed over 200 years). I love the bag which uses the DMC shade card as a pattern. Louise your version is lovely - I like the first version best (larger square with only 1 square between the colour and the number).
Just speaking personally I rarely use white fabric so it wouldn't even help with thread selection as threads look different on different coloured backgrounds. And I rarely choose my own colours - I am a follower of designer's choices in the main.
But it will be fascinating to see who stitches what0 -

Had lunch with a friend, then started walking through the town centre and was getting so breathless that I decided to get the bus home. Really should go to Drs, but they close at lunchtime on Thursday's. Hoping lemsips & rest will help.
Hope you are feeling better today and if not that you have managed to get to the doctors.0 -

Feeling better today, thanks. Husband insisted that we call the out of hours GP last night as the breathlessness had come on so quickly. Usually I have a day of bad coughing first, but this was sudden. Only started feeling poorly on Tuesday, and wasn't coughing that much. Anyway, they ran through their questions and decided I needed an emergency ambulance, so they turned up and did tests. Oxygen levels were very good-which surprised me-so they thought it was an issue with my upper chest. Took me to the hospital (that's 4 visits in a month now! I'm sick of that place) and waited to see a Dr in the walk in clinic. He gave me antibiotics and inhalers. They seem to be helping already, which is good. Then when I got home, hubby made me a lemon & ginger tea. I managed to spill about 1/3 of the mug down myself when it was still very hot & burnt my boobs! Put a cold, wet flannel on it, then aloe vera gel before bed and it looks ok today, but ow, did it hurt last night!!!
Realised that tomorrow it's the 10/11/12, so if you're starting a new project, make sure all the bits are ready to go. I'm going to do the Christmas ABC, so I'll prep it tonight & make sure it's all ready to go. Ooooh, new fabric to play with...:jCross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Hi all,
Wanted to update you on my mini xstitch.
It's not amazing, but it's finished and more importantly, DS likes it. I have added a little wadding, backed with white felt and stitched together with blanket stitch. I just need a button to sew onto his patchwork quilt, then I can hang his tiger on.
Thanks for the suggestions on how to finish it. I'm making some Xmas stockings now...Bossymoo
