Got home from my mini break last night. I went to Gloucester on Thursday, to see my mum and friends. Had to go by coach as train tickets were expensive (was quite last minute, so couldn't be very flexible), but it was a quick journey compared to usual. They didn't go into Heathrow airport this time, so straight from London to Cheltenham, then Gloucester. Having free wifi made the time go quicker too!
Saw my friends and gave them their very late birthday presents. One was the end of May, so felt bad about that. But on the plus side, I got some more pressies too! LOL! Had a necklace and earring set, a cute apron, hot water bottle and the Lizzie Kate 'Cat lessons' chart that I wanted. Looking forward to starting that, but got lots more to stitch first.
Right, time for a catch up. Grab a cuppa...it will probably be a long one!
elliep-So are your stitchbows in the clear plastic folders? Then in binders? Thinking I might change mine as they don't stay put in the boxes, so you open the box and about a dozen stitchbows fall out!
mrs-moneypenny-Congratulations on your win! Both very lovely kits.
maria and the imps-Your table looks brilliant. I showed my mum too and she was very impressed. I think this is what you spray on it to protect it.

No idea if it's a good price, though. Never used or bought it before, but read online somewhere that it's what stitchers use to protect unframed stitching.
Flat Eric-Could you use Sky Go/iplayer/ITV player etc to watch the programmes that your OH deleted?
sweetcarer-Well done with the comps. Especially as this was the first time you've entered. Your cupcakes look very yummy. Any left?
postingalwaysposting-London looks amazing.I love the splash of red against the grey tones. So effective. Please post another photo when you've framed it.
I'm not sure about the RR either. I would like to join in, but I was part of the last quilt and it did hurt when it all went wrong. I'd hate for some much time and effort to be wasted. I'll have a think, though. Posting recorded delivery would certainly help ensure nothing goes missing with Royal mail.
sk00bie1-Very pretty dress. I hope we'll get some wedding pics next year of you wearing it. Where in Vegas are you getting married?
I wore trainers for my wedding! I've not been good with heels ever since my motorbike accident (smashed up my kneecap), so found some white trainers in New Look. They had diamant!s on and white & silver laces. It's not like anyone could see with a full length dress anyway, and I was comfy the whole time.
My mum recently cleared out my Grandma's loft and there's my great grandmothers wedding dress up there. It was hand made and is silk. All 4 generations of dresses have been so different. I'll have to try and get photos one day. Mum has most of them, so I'll see if she can dig them all out for me.
Blossom is playing me up today. She's attention seeking and keeps trying to venture places she's not allowed to go. Trying not to shout at her because she's had a disrupted week too. All the strange people coming in and out to work on the damp/leaking pipe. I've got a headache and haven't slept well in a while, so not got much patience for her today.
Oh, I bought some superglue gel. Found it in Home Bargains for £1, so slightly cheaper than Wilkinsons. Think I'm due a coffee & caramel slice now. I hate Mondays.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Thanks to all the girls in the Cross Stitch Cafe! You're all fantastic! :A0 -
Hello yes I will take a pic of Row of Cats and post. I think I have stitched 2 cats - might have started a 3rd? It would be nice to finish something and have it framed and stick on the wall!
Bit  - finally received Supersize Stiches by Jacqui Pearce. Not sure quite what I was expecting and think if I had seen in the shops, might have left on the shelf. Some nice ideas and projects. I am bit cross with myself as the cover project is 3 cushions with the letters XXL (one cushion for each letter). Of course this made me think that the book contained all the letters of the alphabet which I thought would be really cool :j but it doesn't just the letters X and L.
The theme of the book is supersize and this is reflected in the size of the charts. (think large print library books which hurt by eyes!) Also the charts do not have symbols in them - just coloured squares which I think will make hardwork of following them. Likewise, again (silly me), the chart is not called Large Cross Stitch for a reason. Its caled supersize stitches! :doh:so bit of adapting and faffing will be needed to be able to stitch the designs (working out the threads needed i.e (guessing and hoping for the best) etc.
I have been reading about the proposed round robin with interest. I haven't commented yet as I am not sure yet whether I will be able to commit to it although I would very much like to if time allowed. I too am a bit confused about how it all works. Someone posted recently to say that we each start a project and pass it on - does this mean that it gets passed on to everyone in turn ? so for example, say that there are 10 of us - does this mean that we each end up doing 10 individual stitched designs so that the end of the project, there are in effect 100 stitched designs stiched by us all ??? (sorry if the answer is obvious - Its Monday and my brain is refusing to come out to play :rotfl:)
If its ok to throw my tuppence worth in then how about groups of 4 ? rather than us all stitch on one piece? (if that is the intended idea - see above!).
I just thought something like this as an example/size wise etc.
With a smaller group, it makes it easier to keep within the established members of the cafe and I agree timewise - allow about 6 - 8 weeks for stitchy time. I don't want to step on anyone's toes and the fact I don't really understand how it works doesn't help but I just thought that with a design too big, it would be impossible to display on the wall without getting a bank loan to frame it ! but with a smlaler design, we could all frame them and have on our walls and have fond memmoris/reminders of our lovely cafe :T
Even if we can't always make a group of 4, we could have a group of 3 or even a group of 2 ?
I also agree with the comments about recorded delivery. I have had recorded delivery items posted through my letterbox before without having to sign for them and when i got scammed on eb^y - I had sent the item RD and despite me knowing that the person had received the item, the information online never changed from "its in the postal system" I think its worth the expense to send special delivery.0 -
Thank you Ruth, that spray is very expensive!
I was thinking about getting that book after I saw it advertised in cross sticher should you not recommend it Eric ?13 in 2013 challenge 9/130 -

Hi everyone,
I am a reading rather than a poster. I am really enjoying getting back into cross stitching and have subscribed to Cross stitch card shop via the 3 issues for £5. I have through my door to day have the next issue with some really nice 3D peg cards that I fancy having a go at but they use 14 count plastic canvas aida. I have searched online but I cant seem to find any does anybody have any ideas where I could get some?
Thank you

craftygranny Well done on sorting out the box of kits - you'll be joining in with us again in no time. BTW most of the designs in my RR were free - here's the link if you missed my original post about these lovely designs
maria love your 2 trees
ruth honey great update. Scotchguard is expensive. I have a footstool which has been cross stitched and I have thought about protecting it this way
4 generations of wedding dresses - how wonderful. Would love to see pics
FE Thanks for the review of Supersize Stitches - sorry you are disappointed with your purchase - can you return it?
Re your queries on a round robin. If there are 10 people everyone stitches something on 10 different pieces starting with their own. What they get back is a completed piece with 10 different designs. I agree smaller groups is a good idea if we get lots of us wanting to take part. It is a commitment but I used to find it very motivational having a deadline to meet as well as not wanting to let down my fellow sisters (should that be sister stitchers?)
chicky you can only recover deleted programmes if you have enough disk space so if you deleted something in order to free up space to record new programmes then the deleted items disappear (because they are taking up disk space). I learned this the hard way :rotfl:
