If you were buying the complete set of dmc threads, would you wait, save up and buy the complete set ? or would you buy the individual packs (there are 5 of them) that cost £60 odd each meaning that approximately every other month you could order a new pack? (assuming that you saved £30 every month).

Also, if ordering the complete set, would you order just the threads or order them and pay the extra for the dmc chest??

I'm thinking of saving up/using it to motivate me to get back to my SW target but can't decide how best to do it?

Likewise, I don't know whether just to continue to buy indiviudal threads for projects I see so I may never have the complete set but I always have/buy the threads for projects that I want to do ?
  • I just can't seem to stitch at all these past few days. From I got two orders to stitch my bug has just vanished. On a positive note hubby started his new job on Monday and so far loves it. He is working every day from 4pm to 7pm and my Dad takes him and collects him so no transport costs, and it's only 10 minutes away so he is home for about 7:15pm every night. Just need to try and get a wee routine going as don't seem to be getting anything done....xx

When I was gathered up my full set (before I sold them on ebay to raise much needed funds), I done it in batches.

If I needed some threads for a chart I wanted to do I ordered some extra to round up the order. So if I needed 24 for my chart I would have ordered 30.

The first thing I ordered was the set of sticky numbers and then worked my way through the numbers in batches of 30 at a time. The only downside to ordering a lot at a time was spending the time winding them all onto bobbins...xx

  • Flateric - what caroline just suggested :rotfl:
but you could put the £30 a month into a 'stitching' fund so that when you did want to buy some you don't need to feel guilty.

Sorry, just seen this bit. I don't know how much you have to lose but if you work out what you would like to lose and then buy a certain amount of threads every time you lose a pound.

To make it simple, say you have 30 pounds to lose, and there are 300 threads you need. Every time you lose 1 pound buy 10 threads...xx

  • I would go with Caroline idea I think that would keep me motivated

Not exactly stitching related, but for every 1lb I lose, I put £1 in a money box and when I lose 10lbs, I buy a charm for my bracelet. Almost due for my 5th one. :j

I *think* when I bought my DMC threads, I bought them in batches of about 50. It was a good few years ago now, so I'm not certain where I bought them. Then I top up when I need them. Can never find the colours I want when I need to, mind. Too many things on the go which use the same colours, I guess.
