Suitable punishment for eldest son...

My mum always says it's stories like this that made her thankful for me. I was noisy, grumpy, messy, awkward...but I loved her and she always knew where I was and who I was with.
We also had adult negotiations... at 16 - "Mum, I'd like to go to a karaoke night on Thursdays. It's in a pub, the King's Head." Mum - "What about homework, and who are you going with?" Me - "Going with X, Y, and Z, and I won't be drinking, I just like karaoke. All my work will be done before I go - you can check. I'll get a taxi home, be in by 10, and I'll come in half an hour early every other night." Mum - *rings X/Y/Z's parents to confirm* "No problem, but you know what'll happen if you break this agreement."
I never did break it - the year before I'd come in half an hour late after telling my mum I was going to X's house. We never thought to tell our parents we were going to the beach and they were frantic. I lost my games console for a week and was grounded for the same time.
I knew where my boundaries were and the punishments - OP, I think that's what you're going to have to reinforce, but I also communicated openly and honestly with my parents and I think this is what you have to encourage.
Good luck - teens are 'orrible little oiks sometimes.
HBS x"I believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another."
"It's easy to know what you're against, quite another to know what you're for."

My reaction wearing the goggles of a 14 year old: Puke! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Give him a copy of this :
My promise to my children.
I am not your friend.
I am your mum.
I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare & hunt you down like a bloodhound when needed because I LOVE YOU!
When you understand that, I will know you are a responsible adult. You will NEVER find someone who loves, prays, cares and worries about you more than I do!
The sentiment is fair enough to express to a mother. It is an OK card for a mother to hang up and maintain a bit of inspiration from. But you only give that to your kids if you want them to run away and join a circus.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It was said in jest.

I'm fortunate that my son who is also 14 hardly goes out. I moan constantly that he should be making new friends and going out but now when I see this I'm actually quite thankful that he stays in.
Ranting and raving gets you no where as my son takes more notice of me when I 'talk' to him than his dad who goes off the handleLife is a rollercoaster.....ya just gotta ride it:whistle:0 -

I think there is something in that. Probably the threat would be enough ....globetraveller wrote: »actually- as a punishment you could enter it on his facebook page:rotfl:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
