If it's been on the market for 6 years there is either something wrong with it, priced too high or your a time wasting seller who puts your house on the market but really doesn't want to sell. My guessing it's all three.

Bad guess, dear. We need to sell, but also need money to buy another house. I guess we just give it away for free, right?

If 6 YEARS wasn't a typo and you meant 6 months instead....what exactly is wrong with the offer?

All it says is that your House ( or your parents house, I can't seem to decipher who this property actually belongs to) as it is, is worth 40 K less than the AP. To THEM.

There is nothing remotely wrong or insulting about it. Nor has it got anything to do whether they want to extend it, demolish it, whatever. They felt that the present house was worth paying £260000 for.

And since in 6 years no one felt any differently about it - you may want to reconsider whether you are acting in your parents best interests if you are laughing at such offers and dismissing them.

    Is it even YOUR house?

Not sure if the OP is just a trolling exercise, but I'll bite :D

So was the asking price set at 315k six years ago pre-slump and has only just dropped by 15k recently?

Without even considering that your house is clearly over-priced for the current market, their first offer of 260k was >86% of asking price - a very fair first offer.

What kind of offer would your parents accept?

All offer's we've had in the last 6 years have been for the asking price, including one last year.

Today we have an offer of 40k less, the reason given that they want to extend & add improvements, but can't afford it unless we give them 40k off.

Quite astonished at the responses as my first impression was "jog on", lol.

Mmmm, I think we are all merrily responding to someone feeling bored on a Friday evening.

The OP's post doesn't make any sense. Who keeps their house on for SIX years at virtually the same price if they wanted to move?

Please tell me this is a wind-up thread.

And please stop using "dear" in that patronising manner - you sound like Michael Winner...

Hang on a minute, are you telling me that you don't price your property according to those around it? I think most of you are out to be taken advantage of, where do you all live exactly? Just so I can come round and make a silly offer for yours. :D

The house was £350k 6 years ago, reduced to £315k 2 years ago, now £300k. Absolute lowest is £290k, that's with planning permission (probably worthless now thanks change in law) for extension & extra garage. Very quiet area, houses around us priced at £350k-£330k.

From our experience of several house moves you always get people trying it on, like these lot are at the moment, so we just bide our time for the right bid. Sadly the recession cut all interest around the area, so we just left it on the market.

Hehe, still laughing about this one. I live at home with my parents (I'm late 20's) and we've had the house on the market for about 6 years. In that time we've had every type of over-enthusiastic time-waster, liars & !!!!-takers imaginable, but it's ok because we've moved a few times before and are used to it, so we never get our hopes up.

    But still.

The house is on for £300k, dropped by £15k. We had this couple round last week, they rang up with 2 hours notice yesterday for a second viewing with their parents. They had another quick walk round, told us all about their expensive cars, race horses etc, very impressive. *yawns*

Today the estate agent begrudgingly rings us with their embarrassing offer - not only that, but with their reason to justify it.

They offered £40k less than the asking price; is that because the house needs updating? Next to a busy road? Needs urgent repairs? Hell no! It's because they want to build a massive extension and they want US to pay for it! Ha!

    Hahahaha! :rotfl:

I tell you, hilarious. Do I have MUG written across my face?

Gotta hand it to them, I really didn't see that one coming. Well played, sirs. :T
