  • I didn't like the colour of the last Asda ones I got - too wishy-washy! I found it rather offputting but if they are down to 4p I may have to think again!! I. stocked up on the Sainsbury's ones when they were 8p but I think they are now 12p! Scandalous!

Many thanks for this, I had been wishing I had bought more of these before, but have stocked up now, the BBF date is 2016,
wonder what we will be paying for them then?

even though this is a vlue thread.

Have a go at boiling normal peas than purree in the blender. add a little (well alot if you like) butter and seasoning. Gives you a lovely pea sauce.
May not be as cheap, but the peas are fresher and not been tinned so more vitamins as well. Plus very good tasting.

Nando's-style pretend "Macho Peas" - tin of mushy peas, mint, chilli flakes. Yum.

The 4p mushy peas were pointed out to me yesterday by a cheerful pensioner. He was going to have them on a sandwich. Yummy :)

I've made pea soup from the Tesco mushy peas and was most impressed with the result: taste, texture and the dark green colour.

One tin of peas, 400ml of water and a vegetable stock cube. Heat all the ingredients and blend. If necessary, adjust the quantity to 500ml (2 x 250ml bowls). Heat again. Serve or allow to cool and freeze.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

    Thanks for this recipe.
I made a 'luxury' version of this yesterday.

4p tin of Tesco mushy peas and 1.5p Approved foods Oxo chicken stock cube.
    500ml boiling water.

I added a small pinch of basics mixed herbs and a pinch garlic powder.
Two tiny potatoes past their best, peeled chopped and added. Simmered for 10 minutes.

I had a couple of tablespoons of double cream to use up, the last bit in the pot, some pepper and a tiny bit of butter. All blended.

It was really nice, and I named it cream of pea soup.

I've had these before and remember watching a programme not too long ago (the one where that guy makes 'processed' food in a barn type thing I think!), and naturally the peas are that colour - the bright green we're used to seeing in mushy peas is just colouring added in.
  • Tesco value peas are lovely. Add a touch of malt vinegar for that chip shop taste! Try making mushy pea curry - superb!
