  • Outrageous behaviour. I would be complaining and, personally, be thinking about legal action.

how do you arrive at such a random number?

As for alter ego posting, that really needs to be banned, if you haven't got the guts to post under your 'trusted' user name then you know before you post what you post that its not the right thing to post.

It's the amount I'd ask for, as simple as that.

If the second paragraph is aimed at me, I'll need a translation.

Sorry if this comes over as cynical but we only have one side of the story.

I wonder if the security man is thinking he knows what he saw and the OP might have dropped the toy in the next shop. I'm not saying that's wha did happen but the security man may just be thinking that.

If i had been that upset, i would have just gone home, not popped into another shop for a toy for the dog.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I get that its what you would ask for, but based on what? You've come to that number based on the one sided story given here, if the OP takes that advise they are going to be asked why that amount.

In otherwords, its great giving the OP a number, but back it up with a breakdown or explanation, otherwise its not something they can use beyond 'someone in the internet told me to ask for this'.

It's not a right but an opinion if you get me?

As for the second paragraph, no its not aimed at you, it was aimed at the alter ego that was posting earlier in the thread.

ok i defend myself having been labelled 'unhelpful' - what exact 'help' does the op want or is it just a vent ? There's no 'consumer' issue here, no 'moneysaving' to be had and there must be hundreds of better places to air views on this topic than joining a site with the sole purpose of this post.

I'll add a helpful comment - put it down to experience and concentrate on the important things in life - by all means write to them and complain but don't make it the centre of your life.

ever heard the saying if you cant be nice dont bother at all

Even if that is the case it doesn't explain or excuse the fact the man was unable to present op with some identification. Or the fact he didn't even introduce himself as an employee/worker at the store.

How it should have gone down:

'Madam, i'm part of the security team at XXX, have you removed goods from our store? Please can you re-enter the store with me?'
    'Show me your ID..'
'Certainly Madam, my name is XXX' *presents ID*

You should have insisted the police be called (or call them yourself), kidnapping is a serious offence.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

Oh please! Nobody was kidnapped. The OP agreed to go back into the store.

I can only base my Answer on the story that I have been given, only the OP was there and I'm not going to accuse them of lying.

The amount I suggested seems a fair amount of compensation for the distress caused. There is no magic formula in situations like this so why not ask for n amount that you think is fair.

I personally had my credit card refused due to an error by my credit card company, I asked for £100 compensation for the embarrassment and I got It. So if you don't ask you don't get.

£200 sounds ambitious but if they get knocked down to £100 I'd suggest it is a result.

I cannot believe you get £100 for having a credit card refused!
