Will you be calling MIL2B and FIL2B 'mum and dad'?

I call them by first name - they would be happy for me to call them 'mum and dad' and they usually sign cards etc to me as that but tbh it just doesn't feel right to me as I already have a mum and dad I'm very close to and to me it would be strange to call anyone else that.

OH is very close to his gran and I call her 'gran' but then my grandparents were/are 'grandma' and 'nana' so that feels less weird to me because it's not using the exact same title.

That's the same for me. Its first name for his parents, but 'Grandma'! I have a granny and a nana, so grandma is ok. :)

  • I could think of nothing worse. I have a mum and dad!

However for birthdays etc always get a mum and dad car and write to mum/dad but then it is from their son as well.

Same here. Sorry but no-one will ever be called mum again by me. :(

On my birthday the card says daughter-in-law and that's correct.

  • Definately first names for us! My mil is lovely, but I have a Mum, and to me it wouldnt feel right calling someone else Mum.

We both have step dads (who have been in our lives a long long time and we are closer to them than our real dads), but we both refer to them by their first names- so we definately wouldnt call each others step dad 'dad' as we dont call them that ourselves!

    Hell no!! lol.

Don't get me wrong - I get on with them, but they aren't my mum and dad. I have a mum. I don't want another one. :) I call them by their first names.

  • I'm amazed by how offended some people seem to be by the thought of calling the inlaws Mum&Dad.
I understand people just thinking it a bit odd, and I don't do it.
But I do now think of my inlaws as part of my extended family.
Sometimes I feel like it's weird to have such a nice relationship with my inlaws when I see some people's stories.

I will continue to use their first names. If its a card from the both of us we always put Mum & Dad but thats just to save confusion over whether to do that or use first names but have it signed from their son. Equially they'll sign cards to both of us from mum & dad but my birthday cards their first names....although not had one since we've been married yet. I thought it was maybe an Indian culture thing because the only time ive heard it was on eastenders...can remember the girls name but she called her M&FIL mum&dad which did confuse me for a bit.
