    These are hypothetical jobs !!

Who is handing out cushy £100/day jobs building computer systems ??
    These are probably temporary jobs.

£10/hour jobs will be snapped up & are not handed out on a plate, as they're a lot more than minimum wage (£5.35/hour).

Okay, I have got worked up based on duff second hand info.

I must stop getting in a panic and worrying about all this jobs stuff. I know when I think of people I know who work at unis that they have no special quality to them, but for some reason I set it up that you must be a god to get a job there.

It is not that I don't believe you. I just have an awfully bad opinion of myself and I just naturally see the worst in me.

I think I have a lot of good points but until someone gives me a job and shows faith in me then I can not know all these good qualities are true and other people can see them.

I find the whole job application thing hard as it involves being rejected and being told you are not good enough and that compounds my bad self image.

I do try to believe that the future is bright and that everyone is right that it can be good.

I am sure there must be some jobs about that will train you and will take you on if you are not perfect, but all these job ad look like you have to be perfect.

I will try to worry less.
I think I am just a bit too negative.
Yes, a Degree in Philosophy is not the best in targetting jobs.

I think you're not sure where this Degree in Philosophy has led you.

Years ago there were a lot more milk-round (graduate) jobs available, less competition & companies weren't so ruthless.
People studying in Arts faculties could get jobs more easily then.

I would think there will be lot of competition for jobs at Uni, as they have job security.

You can't be too picky these days.
Just get your foot in the door somewhere.

Once you've had a few jobs, you'll have more idea where you're going.

I am going to put in an application for a buying assistant in the Newspaper tonight at a supermarket.

Worth a shot it has to be.

Phil, cant you just go to a temp agency to get some skills.

When I was in your position, finished uni ( I had worked bar work, tescos etc) but no office work, I just went to an agency & they got me a job for a few weeks. Yes it didnt set my world on fire but it was only for a few weeks, I got 800 quid out of it and the most important thing a reference.

Personally, I think you could spend your time better simply GETTING OUT THERE learning the skills. At least you'll have something in your applications which is solid PROOF you can and have worked.

Phil, I'm guessing you're still on your Easter holidays atm? Go into town today and go into as many shops as you can and ask for an application form. You can spend the weekend completeing them and then send them off/hand them in first thing Monday morning.

    Surely you can do that?

That's right, go to agencies and go everyday, ring them up all the time, after a point they will get tired of listening to you and work harder for you.

You are the only person that can do anything about you.

Start at the bottom, and then if you really want a future work hard, and move upward, you need to get the right attitude, which you don't have.

£100 a day IT jobs, it takes me almost 1 and a third day to earn that, and I'm in IT. :rotfl:

Its not really much money anyway, just START SOMEWHERE!!!

I really have to work on my research project as it is due a week today and I still have 3000 words left to do.

I have got to learn to manage this stress and anxiety better rather that being in my room and so frustrated I want to pull my head off.

to be honest with you Phil, I think you need to spend more time actually DOING.

You seem to be constantly online ;) if you have a research proj to do DO IT. then on your break ( 15 mins after each full hour) surf / naff about/ browse jobs.

So far today- and I am job hunting as well- I have
    done a load of washing
hung out 2 loads of washing
    cleaned kitchen
    done all the pots
moved the kitchen round & swept
phoned 4 agencies & sent CV to 3 ( one wasnt interested)
emailed an application for a job that I completed yesterday
    dealt with the post
    reorganised an interview for monday.
packaged up ink to be sent to tescos
searched through the website of the agency I registered yesterday- nothing as yet
    put dogs lunch on
    watered the plants
    and browsed gumtree
    and posted here.
About to take dog out and take the mail after that IM going to come home- phone 3 agencies & send cv, then have a break where Ill tidy, then phone again.

You need to ORGANISE your time.

You also need to be out of the house for heavens sake, staring at a pc all day does NO ONE any good at all.
