Spill the beans... on how to minimise loo paper use

A bidet or bidet function is the obvious answer.
In many countries where the sewage system is even worse than the one in the UK (Greece, Turkey, Asian countries..) you sometimes find a bin next to the toilet where to put the used paper in. But more often, you'll find toilets with built in function. In France, Italy, Turkey for instance and other Arab countries, toilets with a washing nozzle are quiet common.
In the Viking, Teutonic nations of Germany (3%), England (2%) there is far less culture. We just rub our backs against the bark of a tree. That's what real men do. Really??
It is important where you buy a bidet or attachment. It might make sense to by in an Islamic Arab country and pay the postage to here.

It makes a lot of sense. We just need to be open to re-learn. But most Bidets in Germany or England are traditionally in upper class homes. I wonder what they know. Maybe because they travelled more. ;-)0 -
I use "Nicky" 3 ply from wholesalers (should I have dropped the "W"?)
Seriously at £9-54 inc. VAT for 32 rolls I can't find better in my area.
Nicky is fantastic quality! A few people I know seem to be put off by the price - thinking it'll be like tracing paper. In fact, it's better quality than most of the top-end brands.0 -

Home Bargains stock this also, but cheaper. Excellent quality.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
Never, Ever, put wipes of any kind down the toilet, even if the instructions say you can, because they don't break down quickly enough.
You should ONLY flush bodily substances and proper toilet paper. If you have to use a wipe, have a small covered bin that you can empty with the rubbish collections.0 -
Life's too short to be watching loo paper. Just buy in bulk when on offer (Lidl do a good one). There's being economical, and there's being tight (and uptight).0

There are the usual methods of "If its brown flush it down, If its yellow let it mellow", But with a busy family house of 6 with one w.c it doesn't always work. As a rule we ask that if you go to the toilet at night you don't flush as its noisy. Should't have to the put the light on either as the toilet is in the same place hasn't moved and the streetlight comes through the window. [Thats my pet issue turn the lights off!] The main solution was to bulk buy Toilet Paper so get it cheaper than the regular supermarkets offered.
Bought 180 rolls of toilet paper through Groupon for £41.00 including the £2.00 delivery. This was cheaper than Sainsbury basic brand. The only issue is storage. Well found space. Under the stairs, under the bed and most in the spare room/come study. AND it was delivered to the door so didn't have to squeeze it into the car or spend petrol going to get them.
It isn't luxury brand, but it certainly isn't a sandpaper brand either. What the heck it works and not only much cheaper per roll we don't have to think about the wretched paper ever running out for a good few MONTHS!! :j"... during that time you must never succumb to buying an extra piece of bread for the table or a toy for a child, no." the Pawnbroker 1964

Not German or Upper class............!
My OH started using the bidet for its designated function a few years ago following a 'problem' in that area shall we say;) The problem went away within a week and he hasnt looked back since........ swears by it. I do use occasionally but found I got most use from it after giving birth and had stitches:eek:
............cant say I have noticed a reduction in the household use of TP.
How about double use? When I have a cold I often blow my nose first then use TP for its intended purpose. Is that too gross? Anybody else?.. IK........ TMI:D Great thread though - very amusing:rotfl:
Oh and I use Andr*x BTW. Like others on here its one area I have tried to economise but think its not worth it. Quality toilet paper and top quality ground coffee will be the last to go!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

When I first got married, I was stunned how much loo paper we were going through!
I decided that if this was the worst problem I had to deal with then life would be good.
14 years later we use just as much, and I couldn't care less.
Life's too short to be worrying about this nonesense.0 -

I can assure you that, even though "bidets" were common in French bathrooms ages ago (mostly in houses that were built circa 1920/30), they are not now. French people use toilet paper just like British people do. I'd hazard a guess that bidets were useful when people didn't have showers available. We had one in our bathroom when I was a kid, and it was never used in the way it was intended to. We mostly used it to wash manky feet after having run around the garden!0
