  • Using wet wipes will make you cleaner but as they do not degrade like toilet paper, they cause blockages in the main sewers. Look up fatberg and remember, we all have to pay to clear these.

I always understood that men automatically put the roll in place with the end hanging in front while women do the opposite and I thought the hose with a press nozzle that you see abroad was to clean the loo.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I always use value as we have an old house with thinner pipes and that thick stuff isn't only a waste it also blocks the toilet
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door
  • What a subject! I find it is pointless buying cheap paper - it tends to make me use more, as I worry about it tearing. Sadly, the really pretty flowery ones tend to fall into this category. It also has less sheets per roll. On the other hand, no-one seems to have mentioned my problem - I suffer with allergic rhinitis - I spend a lot of time sneezing and in the close confines of my tiny downstairs toilet Andrex becomes unbearable to use - it's far too dusty. It invokes my sneezing and then I use more paper on my nose. Consequently, since the toilet roll is so conveniently to hand, that's what I use! Vicious circle....more sneezing, wiping, sneezing....has taught me not to buy "standard" Andrex....and a sore nose has taught me that Shea Balm/Balsam is not only kinder to my nose....when necessary.....but makes the loo smell nice... (And they sell it in Aldi).

Not worth discussing prices, since 23p/roll today will be 27p tomorrow. I use "MySupermarket" to check prices/unit of things. And stockpile when it's really cheap. Fortunately, I have never been in the category "broke" to the point of worrying about the toilet roll. I won't waste money though. It is going down the drain after all. I rather take the mindset of saving somewhere else, so I can afford my "Shea butter" luxury..
  • It’s always seemed to me that using water would be less, not more, hygienic. With the use of paper and very thorough handwashing, the only place that could possibly not be left completely clean (until the next shower) is the one that, ahem, matters least - and obviously, if you’re careful, even that is clean though not sterile. Using water, unless you are actually going to strip and shower your whole body, surely in the attempt to avoid wetting your clothes you would be likely to splash areas of the room – not to mention that your hands would end up far less clean than if you used paper. It’s all very well if the only person who ever uses the loo is extremely careful and washes his/her hands with great care – but I wouldn’t care to risk anyone else’s standards of hygiene with that method.

  • Buy bog roll from a wholesaler such as booker, each roll is several times bigger than a standard roll...

12 rolls are about 9 quid...

At 150m each that's nearly 2 kilometres of toilet roll (1800 meters)

Plus hard to pull too much off at once as they are so big!

A pack lasts us months and months.

Also ASDA wet-wipes are 50p a pack, just put them in the bin, not the bog!
  • But please, do not flush your wet wipes down the loo. Our small estate had blockage and unblockers told us most blockages are now caused by everyone flushing wet wipes (even the so-called flushable ones), cleaning wipes etc. down loo. Caused an awful lot of problems and took a long time to clear!
  • I'm not ploughing through 560 posts to see if this has been posted before, but loo paper use can be almost eliminated for no 2's if you er, shave the nether regions. Use a body groomer once a month to do the deed (you don't actually need to shave, a close trim will do), and most times you only need one sheet.

Other (noisy) functions down there do feel rather strange, but you get used to it. It's vastly more hygienic. Well, it works for sheep.
  • Just flatten the tube of the toilet paper so it automatically stops rolling after a turn on the holder and you use less.
  • I use "Nicky" 3 ply from wholesalers (should I have dropped the "W"?)
Seriously at £9-54 inc. VAT for 32 rolls I can't find better in my area.
