Spill the beans... on how to minimise loo paper use

Another vote for never putting wet-wipes down the loo.
A workman knocked at the door to view the drains in our garden to see if we shared the pipes with our neighbours who have a young baby.
Their kitchen was flooded (presumably with human waste). It transpired it was blocked with wet wipes.
I was relieved to find I didn't share the drain pipe with them or i'd probably have ended up wading through their sewage. They rent the property and I bet they have given their landlord the hump by not respecting the infrastructure.0 -
Even when abroad I still flush the loo paper. I am certainly not paying thousands for a holiday, only to shi te in the bin.
If the toilet gets blocked, simply flush again so the water fills the whole bowl. The weight of the water will dislodge the blockage.0 -

Because you don't eat your dinner with your anus0 -
When I have visited Arab countries, they very often have an "Aftebet" or their version of a bidet, which after a little pracice, I found to be great - very easy on the bum. It is a hose with a tap, and you wash your botty after proceedings have been finalised. Much better and far cleaner than paper.0

Surely life hasn't come down to this!
I have found a brand of cheap but good quality paper and the same in wet toilet wipes and use enough of both to be clean. It doesn't cost a fortune to do so any savings by scimping will be tiny. There are savings to be made in loads of other areas without compromising like this!:money:0 -
cut toilet paper out all together and use this.

Rolls, plural, used in a week?!? (Or is this a large household, and/or one where someone has a medical condition?)
I tend to buy own-brand medium quality (currently default is Tesco's Aloe Vera). I find it a reasonable compromise. I agree that if it's sufficiently thin that you double up to stop your fingers going through, then it's a false economy.
One thing I've never seen in UK is the sprung flap on the holder that was the norm (even on cheap holders) in Germany when I lived there thirtysomething years ago; I presume that at least stopped a jerk making the roll unroll. (And it made the default orientation end-hangs-in-front, unlike the UK default of end-hangs-towards-wall.)0 -

You must not flush wet wipes as they are not bio-degradable.0
