Because a Job may be for life, and who knows when the benefit gravy train will end?

You may, theoretically be better off on benefits now, but what will you do if the Country goes (even more) broke and you lose most or all of those benefits overnight or they are drastically reduced do you have a back up plan? - if not why not?

How long have you got until you reach retirement age?, do you really think that there won't be any changes to your present income (on benefits) throughout that period?. At least in work there may be opportunities for further training with better prospects and salary with the employer in the future, whilst benefit payment amounts may soon be on the way down.

Also, you are also more likely to find employment whilst in employment, so applying for, and hopefully getting a better paid job whilst in a job is more likely than getting it whilst you are unemployed.

Most people have to start on the ground floor and low income and work their way up, its called prospects.

What prospects and promotion opportunities do you have by remaining in the benefits system?
