Yes both will be in school. But it only £9 a week for the one child as she just started full time school. as the youngest is only stating school in mornings in oct. as for travelling argos is just down the end my street (reason for applying so closeand with customer service and retail experience) so walking distances. it is only for the xmas period and am requsted to work from 14 sep -5th january and also workd days 23rd dec 24th dec 26th dec 31st dec 1st jan so i think might be time and half if 40hours over?. on them days.

I been told i get £250 back work job grant
£40 benerfits (In work credit/Return to Work Credit) (I don't think I would)
Extended payments of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit first 4 weeks.

    any that true ?
you might get time and a half for Dec 26th and New Year's Day, but I'd be suprised if you get time and a half for the others!

    That's all true:T
You do get £250 back to work. This is to help pay any bills you get before payday .
You will also get your old rent and council tax paid for One month.
You do get £40 a week paid extra for the first year .

Word of advice . Try not to spend the £40 on day to day living. When the first year is up you will find yourself £160 a month worse off.

I used some of mine to pay off my visa card and the rest I saved for a rainy day ! Which came when my washing machine broke :(

how long do you need to be unemployed to get those benefits?

and what if the work is part time?

As far as I am aware you have to have been on benefit for 26 weeks. The job needs to be for 5 weeks or more. I got it for working 16 hour a week. I think if you are single with no children the job grant is £100. Best to check at Job Centre as amounts could be different for every scenario .

WTC is a bummer. If you qualify for it, you get no school meals, free healthcare etc... and less help with housing and council tax.

It "pretends" to make you better off, and does in cash terms, but the hidden extras make you worse off.

You still get free healthcare on WTC, free eyetests, prescriptions etc... you get a NHS Tax Credit Exemption Card.

and if i am worse of why should i take it?.

Maybe because you've got to start somewhere? Unless you are a graduate in a very good field, the reality is that you are unlikely to ever start at much higher than this. So either you start low, even if worse off, show great work dedication, maybe take a course or so in the evenings if you need to upgrade your education, and start to go up the ladder OR... well stay on benefits all your life...

I have done retail courses at NVQ level 1 and 2. I have also done 3 years volunteering for 2 charity Retail stores. I know it sound bad when I say I rather be on benefits if working is worse off but when it's in my boots and I got the qualifications and struggling find 40hr job 52 weeks due to job growth in my area. And have 2 kids to keep a roof over their heads and to feed and clothe and I am just making it by on benefits. Going into a workplace where I could be much worse off do scare me that I cannot provide for them as I be worse off.

But I do understand what some you mean if it was just me and no one to care for I would be out there risking everything even if it meant starting worse off but that's not the case. Forcing me to try making ends meet and get a job that is higher paying than benefits Evan if that £1 after tax and all that.

to start with, you will not much worse off, at worse, you will be a little worse off to start with.

If you don't get back into employment soon, you WILL definitely be worse off not working at some stage. That's why it is and always will be an investment to stay in employment as much as it is possible. It sounds like you have some qualifications, but not yet enough work experience and continuity to provide the trust required for an employer to want to offer you a better paid job. If you can stick in with Argos and use this time to put into practice what you've learnt with your studies and voluntary work, then you will be in a much stronger and quicker position to get better paid employment in possibly less than a year's time.
  • When I worked in Argos I got time and a half on Sundays so that could help if its still in place.
