went to john lewis bluewater yesterday and they've got some stationery at a discounted price: 100gsm laid and satin paper and envelopes at half price (£1.75 for 40 sheets of paper)- they have A4 and A5 so would be useful for service inserts/ thank you notes. there are cheaper buys on e-bay but if you're near bluewater it would save on postage (though you may end up spending in the shops instead!!):A0

welshnoonoo wrote:Good Idea! I have been reading about this in a newsletter that I get monthly at mrs2be.com and they had some good ideas. It can be really stressful when the kids start playing up, for the parents too can't it. I wouldn't want to ban kids altogether so I am considering some of the ideas i read.
it is hard ,but kids are kids and its boring for them to sit quiet for hours on end esp during speeches etc
but bear in mind that when children are "playing up" the last thing they will want is to be left with a stranger lol ,if they are tired / grumpy all they will want is their mum / dad so its not as easy as "leaving them with the entertainer & mum / dad left in peace for the speeches" etc
of course if they are older then an entertainer may be a great idea as is a room where playstations etc are set up
creches are a good idea if there are lots of children
area where supervised activities are set up and a quiet areas where the parents can put their children down for a nap / change nappy / breastfeed etc and flit back and forth
some companies will supply staff (qualified and police checked etc) and all equipment ,all you supply are the kids and the room0 -
Rachie B - thanks, it was!!
we were lucky and it all went according to plan, even the sun came out!

I'm having a simple wedding with close friends and immediate family. They are a select few so, as Queenie so eloquently put it, the favour they are getting is an exclusive invitation!
Favours are just another way of the wedding industry to make more money out of people! :rolleyes:0 -
Slightly off track, although I think your wedding should be how you want it.....
Favours are not from America as many people seem to think. They are from Europe and mainly our Italian and French friends from over the water......I'm not sure where this idea of them being American came from?! But they have a long historical tradition in Europe!!
However, VickyA - it's your wedding, do what you want - my view on favours, they're great if they are sweets and the food takes forever to come.....or they are full of confetti that you can chuck over the bride!! Although lots of places don't allow this anymore. However, I think these are ideas for other people, cause you've planned enough! If you really wanted them, I'm sure you'd have planned them in already
All the best for your wedding

Oooh I love all this talk of weddings!! If anyone who is getting married is short of guests I am free at very short notice to attend!!
I got married in July 2004 and like someone else who posted never sat down and worked out how much I spent. Reckon probably about 4 - 5K (excluding honeymoon). My parents paid for the evening meal and buffet and the inlaws paid for the cake. I would have been happy for a tesco or markies cake but was talked out of it. Still I wasn't paying!!
I knew from the start I didn't want a fancy hotel with expensive meals so I picked a local social club that did fab meals for £8 a head and managed to do an evening buffet (sandwiches, sausage rolls, salad, pasta, pies, quiche, chicken etc) for £150 for 100 people
Biggest extravagence was my dress. Like Rachie B it was a Maggie Sottero but I bought from a shop and it cost £1200. I totally fell in love with it as soon as I seen it as it was totally bling and totally "me"!!
Only thing I reckon I would have changed was the fancy cars. I got married 3 miles from where I live and had the reception there too. So £500 for a three mile journey....I could have got the bus for £1!!!! That would have been a sight!
One tip for any brides to be is to get a memory box. I have all my cards that I received, the invitations I sent, the favours I gave out, etc. It is so lovely to get it out every now and again and remember my happy day.
Anyway good luck to everyone getting married soon.0 -
I've been looking on ebay for boxes to put my Easter biccies in and found these. They're only £2.20 plus P&P for 20 little boxes. You could do what someone else suggested and buy a tin of Roses or Lindt truffles if you're feeling flush
and you could have 120 favours for about £35 ish.
