I am wondering what a guest book is - is it like an autograph book or something, where guests write friendly messages to the bride and groom?
best wishes

I found out! I found this http://weddings.about.com/od/invitations/a/guestbooks.htm gorgeous article which explains them, and has delicious ideas on variations. I especially like these two ideas:
"Make it personal Rather than your guests just writing down their name, address, and a short "Congratulations", ask them to write their favorite memory of you, advice for a happy marriage, or even use your invitations to ask guests to bring a special photograph or other token to include in your book."
"Have your engagement photo framed with a wide white mat, and have your guests sign the mat board. You can also pre-purchase a mat in a standard size, and then put a note in the middle saying that you will add your wedding photo afterwards. Another wonderful alternative is to frame your favorite wedding reading or piece of artwork, and have guests sign the mat."
Have you got any plans for your wedding guest book?
xx

You can always make your own save paying over the odd for one for like £15! I just got a Plain Red notebook from Woolies and Decorated it in Embellishments and stuff and Put little poems in it as an introduction so people had an Idea what to write in it.. I also made my Own Order of Ceremonys:D
*Shop around for Bargains to so you have abit of money saved to go towards something else. I shopped on Ebay, Checked out joblots and Looked around local markets and craft shops & Hooty's for Bargain wedding stuff.
*Goto wedding fairs, We went to one and found our photographer, we did check other photographers but couldnt find anyone else at a decent price to the photographer we found at the Wedding fair.
*Bridal shop Sales, I got me dress from a place earlier this year in Walsall, It was L'amour Bridal which did clearence wedding dresses and I got a Lovely one with also 20% off! Bargain Eh? Sadly The shop doesnt exist no more as The whole building got burnt down. Thank god I got my dress!
*Compare Prices! and get a fair deal... That way you Dont end up skint.
*Plan it all out first and Only buy what you can afford.
*Dont let People take over your day... It's Your Day if they dont like What you planned.. Tough
*Dont Buy too many Wedding Planning Books as You'll soon realise they all the same thing and you can soon get a few idea's together yourself without the books..
*Chat to other Brides and see what they doing
*Dont keep Talking Weddings, as it will Do your head in... Take a break from it Take up a hobby and spend time with the family.
*Limit yourself to the amount of wedding fairs your goto as You'll end up confused and spoilt for choice and wont know what to have for the big day.SHOPPING RULE: ONLY BUY WHAT YOU REALLY NEED0 -

We're gonna have a canvas that I'll paint the date and our names on the top, provide markers in the right colours and have our guests sign that. The kids can do little pics of themselves like they do for the teatowels the schools try getting you to buy. Then we can either have it up in the house or take it off the frame, roll it up and store.
I can definitely go along with not letting other people interfere with your plans. Sometimes it's better to not talk about it at all until you've sorted out in your own heads what you want, and then you can explain why it is you don't want to go along with xyz that someone else wants you to do! Our day would be VERY different if we listened to what everyone else wants us to do."I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
