  • I went to both M&S and Waitrose yesterday and they have greatly reduced a lot of their valentines chocs. I brought the nets of choc caramel filled hearts from M&S there are approx 8 in each net and they are now 49p. When they went through the till they came up on a 5 for 4 offer.

This means we got 160 chocs for £7.89.

Obviously I had to try them and they are gorgeous!!! They are good until the end on August. I am going to put them either in a little box or a bit of netting not sure yet as trying to find a cheap way of doing this.

Waitrose have boxes of hearts chocolates at about 99p a box which were good until 2008!!
    Hope this helps someone!!

  • Just a little thing that we did when we got married in 2003:

When it comes to the meal at the reception, you can guarantee that there's no way to cater for all tastes. You want the 3 course dinner etc. but someone will always moan afterwards (or during) that they don't like this or that.
You end up spending hundreds and often food goes to waste.

Well we decided to arrange our meal so the guests had a choice and would eat every last morsel.

We decided that we would get the local fish & chip shop to cater!!!

Inside every invite we included a menu consisting of 3 choices:
    Cod & Chips
    Pie & Chips
    Sausage & Chips

It went down an absolute storm, and worked out at little more than £2.50 per head!!!

For the evening party we got Safeways to put together a load of mixed platters.

I believe we managed to do the wedding and reception for less than £3000 and that included the dresses!!!

Set yourself a figure you want to spend and then work out ways to keep to it.
  • Hello
I love the chip shop idea - would love to do that. However I'm having a real problem finding a venue. I've just moved to surrey (on the boarders with W Sussex and Kent) and they all seem to cost an absolute fortune.
Does anyone know of a venue in this area that isn't bank breaking? Unfortunately no friends or relatives with big houses / gardens so will have to hire something but the search is getting quite depressing!

Ideally i'm looking for a venue for 80-100 people cermony and reception. Either affordable food or somewhere where I could do the chip shop idea. Also our families live at opposite ends of the coutry so i'd like to have accomodation fairly near by......any ideas???????

I ordered 100 of those postcards the other day from vistaprint, opted for slow mail so should arrive in a couple of weeks. Only cost £3.65 for 100 postcards...

How did you get them for that price? It says £14.99 for black and white and £21.98 for colour.

  • Hello I'm new to this thread. I haven't read all the thread yet but I am slolwy trying to. Just a few questions.

Those that have made there own invitations and things where did you get your inspiration from? I make my own birthday cards etc but I just can get any insipiration for wedding. So any help much appreciated. Also any ideas for favours? I want something unique but cheap ish.

I dont have a budget sorted yet well I do but it isn't a money saving one and I dont really want to budget too much until I have seen the reception places etc.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Confetti is good to help you with your budget if you use their free wedding budget thing :) Good luck finding a venue... I've got 2 I'm trying to decide between at the moment  none are cheap :( but thankfully my father is helping us a bit financially as I'm his "only" daughter (I'm not but my half sister isn't in contact so I am his only daughter in his eyes :)) and I WILL have the wedding of my dreams or so I'm told :rotfl:

I found it easier to think of a theme or something that's important to you. I've got roses as my theme as i like them and it's my daughters middle name. I got a rose i like and took a picture of it. This picture is then going to be used on the wedding stationery.

I've found my favours as i've gone along. I found some bath bombs in Home Bargains for 29p each and then in BHS they had boxes of 5 Jack Daniels Liqueur chocolates for £1. Going to wrap them all up in matching organza bags. Not really unique but they were cheap
